The Inflight Safety Assurance Consultant invests in the future of Southwest's People by driving Inflight's Safety assurance processes including the facilitation of system assessments and associated research. This role also supports the design, implementation, and oversight of all Safety assurance targeted monitoring plans and documentation of those activities for Inflight Operations. This Consultant works collaboratively with Teams and Leaders throughout the Company to research, conduct audits, and drive the continuous improvement of Safety Assurance and regulatory compliance processes, including corrective follow-up to ensure findings are addressed. Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and expertise within the Safety assurance process, including identifying trends and recommending system assessments to Leadership
- Maintain documentation and record keeping activities as they relate to Safety assurance, targeted monitoring plans, and Safety promotion
- Assist and support all aspects of Safety assurance and targeted monitoring plans, including plan development, coordination, and follow-up
- Support and coordinate the system assessment process in Inflight Operations, including Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
- Review relevant industry data external to Inflight Operations and Southwest Airlines
- Build and maintain relationships with other Inflight Operations Teams, other SWA operating departments, and Corporate Safety & Security
- Conduct regular audits of Inflight Operations programs and processes, including front line audits in the operation
- Coordinate with other audit programs at Southwest Airlines (e.g., ISAP, IEP), and support external and third-party audits (e.g., DOD, IOSA)
- Assist Leader in Support and promotion of the SMS Safety Policy through regular review of the Safety Management Manual (SMM), contributions to SMM revisions, and dissemination of relevant SMM content to Inflight Operations Safety
- Support Safety Promotion (Communication and Training) for Inflight Operations
- Attend industry meetings and conferences related to Inflight Operations Safety on the Leader's behalf
- May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of commercial airline operations
- Knowledge of 14 CFR Part 5 Safety Management Systems and the most recent applicable Advisory Circular
- Skilled in analytic capabilities with the ability to break down and analyze various types of data (e.g. Employee reporting, injury & damage data, etc.)
- Skilled in collecting, organizing, visualizing and assimilating data including turning raw data into meaningful information using data-oriented programming languages and visualization software
- Skilled in analytics and data validation
- Skilled in researching, problem solving, and investigation
- Skilled in verbal and written communication
- Ability to present to a wide variety of audiences
- Ability to have outstanding organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to possess strong interpersonal skills and work independently and as a Team player
- Ability to be energetic, self-motivated, and possess a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence
- Ability to provide friendly service to and maintain positive relationships with all Internal and External Customers
- Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
Education
- Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
- Advanced level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
- Working within a Part 121 Airline Operation
- Assisting with developing and driving Safety Assurance processes and programs
- Aviation Safety Management Systems (SMS)
Licensing/Certification
- Must meet all regulatory criteria to obtain and maintain a CREW badge designation; this position requires successful and continuous enrollment in Rap Back
Physical Abilities
- Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time.
- Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
- Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
- Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
- Must be able to meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary and sensitive Company information
Pay & Benefits:
- Competitive market salary from $95,750 per year to $106,400 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
