Summary
The Enterprise Observability Specialist is a mid-level role within the Unified Digital Intelligence function's Enterprise Observability team, focused on ensuring the resilience and performance of critical infrastructure, applications, and websites. This position designs and implements Level 0 automation and Level 1 monitoring solutions, performs Level 2 advanced troubleshooting, coordinates incident response and administers, configures and implements observability tools primarily Dynatrace but also ThousandEyes, Evolven, and others as needed, while supporting the event intelligence platform. The specialist collaborates with cross-functional teams to monitor infrastructure components and production applications on both on-premise and cloud environments, supporting the team's 24x7 monitoring efforts. The role includes maintaining shift operator logs and ensuring effective handover duties to support seamless team operations.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Directly or through others, the incumbent:
- Provides Level 1 support by monitoring alerts and resolving basic issues for critical websites, web applications, and infrastructure components, while escalating unresolved issues to Level 2
- Performs Level 2 advanced diagnostics (e.g., log analysis, application performance issues) to resolve complex issues like misconfigurations or performance bottlenecks.
- Designs, administers, and configures observability tools like Dynatrace, ThousandEyes, Evolven, and others to ensure optimal performance for monitoring.
- Designs and implements Level 0 automation processes, such as auto-ticket creation and routing for critical alerts, to streamline workflows.
- Implements observability processes for infrastructure components, production applications, and websites, ensuring anomaly detection and situational awareness using observability tools and the event intelligence platform.
- Integrates application and infrastructure data into the event intelligence platform and other observability tools, enabling automated ticketing and incident response.
- Coordinates incident response, analyzing data from the event intelligence platform and observability tools to speed recovery and communicate updates to stakeholders.
- Maintains detailed shift operator logs, documenting incidents, actions, tool configurations, and escalations during assigned shifts.
- Performs handover duties, ensuring clear communication of ongoing issues, system status, and pending tasks to the next shift.
- Develops and delivers training for monitoring teams on administration, configuration, and use of the event intelligence platform and observability tools for Level 1 and 2 support.
- Documents processes, tool configurations, and incident responses to support team knowledge and reduce downtime.
- Troubleshoots performance issues across applications and infrastructure and provides performance tuning recommendations as needed.
- Supports implementation of SLO/SLI metrics in collaboration with support teams and application owners.
- Participates in shift-based operations, including weekend or after-hours support as part of a rotating schedule.
- Obtains or maintains a Dynatrace Specialist certification (e.g., Application Performance Monitoring Specialist, Infrastructure Monitoring Specialist) relevant to team specialization within 6 months of hire.
Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements
- Prefer technical or advanced degree - Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Technology, Engineering, or other related field.
- 4-7 years of experience in Information Systems, focusing on application and infrastructure monitoring.
- Strong expertise in designing and administering observability tools specifically Dynatrace but others such as ThousandEyes, Evolven, and event intelligence platforms.
