THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The selected candidate will engage in a comprehensive one-year training program designed to equip them with the essential skills and knowledge required for the role of an Environmental Engineering Specialist. This training will involve a thorough review of permit applications related to municipal, residual, and hazardous waste landfills, as well as processing facilities and transfer stations. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that the proposed facilities are designed and operated in strict adherence to the Waste Management regulations. Additionally, the role includes conducting field surveys and investigations to verify that waste management facilities are constructed and functioning in accordance with the established permit conditions. Furthermore, the specialist will evaluate closure plans for solid waste facilities to ensure that the closure processes are executed in an environmentally responsible manner, thereby safeguarding public health and the environment.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Williamsport.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, or in any engineering field that includes or is supplemented by 9 credits in environmental engineering; or
  • One year of experience in environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

Condition of Employment:
  • This position will require possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
