About the Role
The Gatehouse/LTL & Maintenance Manager position is responsible for the day-to-day Gatehouse/LTL operation in Dutch Harbor, AK. Provide direction and leadership to the Gatehouse/LTL supervisors and union dispatchers to manage work assignments, yard and road operations, and reporting and equipment planning. Ensure an efficient gate, yard, LTL operation, and equipment control, while adhering to compliance with governmental regulations (i.e., HazMat and OSHA). Manage the maintenance personnel in the day-to-day operations by directing work assignments, attendance tracking, reviewing, and approving timecards. Meet or exceed operational metrics and financial goals for the Dutch Harbor terminal.
What you'll do:
- Ensure customer service accuracy and productivity including reporting and billing of ancillaries and recordkeeping.
- Supervise all pickup and delivery bookings, customer service functions, and gatehouse, container yard, and LTL personnel in Dutch Harbor.
- Ensure DOT regulations are adhered to, and OSHA rules and regulations are followed.
- Ensure HazMat procedures are followed inclusive of booking and documentation.
- Monitor operations productivity related to LTL pickup and delivery, yard personnel, and the efficiency of labor distribution.
- Supervise outport equipment needs and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Maintain real time inventories on equipment control and supervise arrival and detention notices weekly.
- Accountable for efficient yard operations and equipment control to expedite the movement of cargo through the port.
- Maximize equipment operating efficiencies and productivity to meet or exceed standards.
- Ensure the monitoring and control of all equipment inventory, including reefers, tanks, gensets, and chassis.
- Improve profit via aging control and process improvement.
- Assist General Manager with forecasting and budgeting processes.
- Direct involvement with General Manager managing workforce, work practices, and discipline.
- Supervise the day-to-day activities of the shop personnel with support from the Alaska Cranes, Maintenance & Facilities Manager.
- Other duties as assigned.

And these qualifications:
- Strong supervisory and team building skills.
- 5 years' experience in leadership roles within the transportation industry.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in transportation/logistics.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Possess strong verbal and written communication as well as good listening and understanding skills.
- Must be able to problem solve multiple issues from varying sources, resulting in the best possible decision for the company as a whole.
- Strong understanding of regulatory compliance such as OSHA, DOT, EPA, both federal and state.
- Previous experience working with a union workforce is preferred.
- Ability to supervise and discipline under a union contract environment.
- Ability to work various shifts and hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker's Identification Credentials) card.
- Valid Alaska Driver's License.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit in front of a computer for at least two hours at a time.
- Ability to lift 10 lbs. on occasion.
- Ability to stand, bend, walk, kneel, reach, push pull, talk, and hear.
- Work in all types of weather conditions and perform work outside as needed.
