THE POSITION

Get a head start on your content management career with this paid internship with the Department of State (DOS). As a Digital Communications Intern, you will function as a website editor responsible for creating content and website analytical activities. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Digital Communications Intern, you will utilize social media tools based on the agency's mission and goals to manage digital projects assigned by the Governor's Office. Work involves assisting with writing, editing, and posting digital content on DOS' websites, vote.pa.gov, and dos.pa.gov as well as working with the Digital Outreach Director to create, edit, and post content on DOS' social media platforms. You will have the opportunity to spend one week with other DOS offices such as the Office of Policy or the Bureau of Campaign Finance and Lobbying Disclosure for increased learning opportunities. Additional experiences include:

  • Assisting the Digital Outreach Director with social media monitoring
  • Helping design infographics, social media graphics, and branded logos
  • Helping staff a press conference or other media event with the Secretary of the Commonwealth
  • Assisting with writing content, editing content, and laying out content for State Slate, DOS' bimonthly employee newsletter

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Fall 2025 internship, approximately August 15 through December 15, 20 hours per week
  • Work hours are flexible from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday - Friday
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 2 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • You must be a current full-time college Sophomore or above enrolled (or intending to enroll) in the 2025-2026 school year in an accredited college or university with 12 or more undergraduate credits or 9 or more graduate credits.
  • You must be in good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 and or higher).
  • You must be currently working toward a college degree in Digital Communications or a closely related field.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
