POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Financial Counseling Shared Services, this position effectively captures patient liabilities while providing financial counseling to patients/guarantors, who require assistance in seeking and applying for healthcare funding (e.g., Charity Care, or other local/governmental assistance programs) and/or require assistance in reviewing and establishing payment options prior-to-service, at time-ofservice, and/or post-service. Determines the financial status of the patient during the financial counseling process and coordinates benefit authorization and management. Ensures compliance and exceptional customer service when working with patients/guarantors. Contributes to the success of a high-performing shared services organization by helping to drive the long-term Johns Hopkins Medicine Shared Services vision. Helps foster an environment in which continuous improvement in business processes and services is welcomed and recognized

Location: Onsite - 4940 Eastern Avenue, Baltimore, MD

Qualifications:

Education:

High school diploma of equivalent

Knowledge:



  • Knowledge of insurance and governmental programs, regulations, and application processes (e.g., Medicare, etc.), managed care contracts and coordination of benefits is required
  • Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology as well as an understanding of healthcare insurance is required
  • General knowledge of patient access financial counseling functions in acute and non-acute settings preferred
  • Working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local laws and regulations desired/preferred
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Basic math skills
  • Requires ability to understand, evaluate and resolve complex issues
  • Candidate must successfully pass the required designated language assessment prior to job offer


Certifications:



  • Certified Application Counselor (CAC) certification within 6-12 months.


Salary Range: Minimum 18.59/hour - Maximum 30.69/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
