Technical Support to Bimbo Bakeries and Co-Pack Facilities. Research, development, and execution of new packaging materials focused on improving our products' quality attributes. Design and implement packaging die-lines redesigns, complying with the Marketing and technical requirements of each project.
The Packaging Specialist will work with the Brand lead team of the category to design the new packaging and then ensure its proper functionality at operational level. Each design is thought of with the goal to maximize product shelf life and quality.
We are looking for a passionate and dedicated individual that enjoys developing new packaging technology, committed to sustainability and quality.
Key Responsibilities
*Lead development of new packaging materials and technologies that enhance product quality and improve product freshness.
*Lead packaging projects or assignments that support the development portfolio of new baked products to market following the Stage Gate process.
*Conduct production trials in bakery plants to determine feasibility of producing with proposed packaging keeping operating efficiency. Monitor quality post-launch and implement upgrades, as necessary.
*Identify and execute cost savings programs partnering with Finance, Procurement, engineering teams to capture the opportunities.
*Ensure optimal packaging design, die lines, material specs and functionality following the Golden Design Rules best practices.
*Manage technical interaction with packaging material and equipment suppliers.
*Design packaging according to local and state sustainable guidelines, leveraging recyclable packaging materials.
*Coach and train bakery associates on the packaging process through our Packaging training materials.
*Design experiments and generate data to evaluate packaging performance of new materials.
*Develop an internal and external packaging knowledge network, across Bimbo Bakeries business units, Universities, subject matter experts, and laboratories.
*Manage finished packaging specification database in Product Passport.
*Provide support to Bimbo Bakeries units in any packaging material/equipment credit disputes.
*Support packaging disruption events at production facilities and evaluating and executing solutions.
*Positively impact bakery operating efficiency by minimizing the impact of defective material/equipment downtime.
*Travel up to 50% of the time, with occasional weekend work.
*Partner with internal and external areas to effectively influence and gain support for initiatives.
Requirements
*3 to 5 years of packaging engineering experience or similar.
*BS in Packaging Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or similar engineering degree.
*Strong communication and presentation skills.
*Good knowledge of Microsoft suite; MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Power BI.
*Knowledge of packaging software like Tops, Cape, CAD drawing, etc. is a plus.
*Root cause and Statistical analysis.
*Problem-solving and out-of-the-box mentality.
*Continuous improvement knowledge.
