Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Corporate Counsel based in our Overland Park, KS office or from any of our U.S. based offices such as: Boca Raton, FL, Kennesaw, GA, Houston, TX, Detroit, MI, Pittsburgh, PA or Orlando, FL with the potential to work a hybrid schedule or remotely from your home-office at the discretion of the Company. This position will be part of the Contracts Group within the Geosyntec Legal Department. The ideal candidate will review and negotiate the agreements the company executes and will help respond to the legal needs of the company; working with the Director of Contracts, the other members of the Contracts Group and the rest of the department to respond to the needs of the practice; researching legal issues of any type as they arise; and review and negotiate contracts and subcontracts pursuant to the risk and contract management policies of the company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Work with Director of Contracts, the Contracts Group and the legal department to respond to the legal needs of a dynamic professional service practice.
  • Along with other members of the Contracts Group, review and negotiate all types of contracts and subcontracts with clients, subcontractors, and vendors; work collaboratively with Director of Contracts and Project or Client Managers to achieve positive and timely outcomes of negotiations.
  • Work with internal resources and external insurance brokers regarding commercial insurance program to ensure compliance with insurance requirements and to respond to questions regarding insurance.
  • Research legal issues and changes in the law to ensure day to day compliance with the company's operations and contractual commitments. Advise on any perceived risks or liabilities to company management.
  • Act as legal resource for various subjects as assigned. Examples of legal topics include but are not limited to: project delivery/defective service issues arising out of construction projects, requirements for conducting business in various locations; cybersecurity issues; professional liability; commercial insurance; employee relations issues; intellectual property; bankruptcy; securities regulations; collection and payment issues; and other legal questions as they arise.
  • Provide high quality, positive and responsive services to both internal and external clients as issues arise to support effective resolution of the issue.
  • Provide guidance and support to Project or Client Managers on contract or risk management related issues.
  • Respond to requests for assistance and guidance from Project and Client Managers.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as needed.


Education and Licensure

  • Juris Doctor (JD) Degree and a license to practice law in any state/province in the US or Canada is required.


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of contract law experience, including the review, administration and negotiation of contracts; project related claims; evaluation of general legal issues and an ability to communicate complex legal issues to individuals not trained as lawyers. (required)
  • Intermediated knowledge of Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, and PowerPoint and working knowledge of Excel and Access. (required)
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from colleagues, groups of professionals, senior management, project teams, clients and subcontractors. (required)
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical and logical thinking skills. (required)
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret contracts, insurance documents, general business periodicals, professional journals, financial reports, legal documents, office procedures, and governmental regulations. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
