Job Summary

The In-Process-Control/Finished Goods Quality Technician reports to the Quality Manager and supports the continual production process by working a rotating twelve-hour shift in conjunction with operations. The successful candidate works within the BRC quality management system, performs routine and some non-routine chemical evaluations of samples via modern lab equipment including HPLC, ICP, moisture balance, pH and conductivity meters. Additional duties include; investigating sources of product non-conformance, auditing, assisting in test method development, and recording information in written form.
  • Analyze incoming raw materials, process samples and streams, and finished goods to assure material specification compliance, proper plant operation, and reporting of all aspects of quality pertaining to the manufacturing process.
  • Record and transmit obtained analytical data as required in a timely manner. Enter data and usage decisions in SAP.
  • Perform some preventative and non-routine instrument maintenance, reporting any malfunctions or needed repairs.
  • Calibrate and standardize laboratory instruments and record data as scheduled.
  • Perform environmental monitoring activities including; sampling and post sampling handling
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area and conform to laboratory Chemical Hygiene.
  • Participate in test method development.
  • Demonstrate good safety behavior and environmental responsibility.
  • Perform assigned duties during laboratory or plant emergencies.
  • Perform activities per the Hazardous Waste and DOT Hazardous Material - Position Description Appendix, EDOC-030
  • Data review
  • Capable of communicating basic lab methods and skills to others including other lab techs and process operators
  • Communicate via corporate email and voice mail.
  • Maintain a working home or cell telephone, with active voice mail.
  • Work twelve hour rotating shift schedule with occasional overtime

Requirements:

  • The candidate shall possess an A. S. degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Food Science or closely related science or equivalent experience.
  • Physical requirements include standing for 10 - 11 hours per shift, climbing stairs, kneeling and occasionally lifting equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Necessary skills include familiarization with laboratory apparatus, good communication skills, and the ability to function independently in a laboratory setting.
  • Must have demonstrated potential for accepting additional responsibilities and learning.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in the use and maintenance of complex instrumentation such as HPLC, ICP, auto-titrators and spectrophotometers
  • Skilled in use of laboratory and business software such as LIMS, SAP, ChemStation and ICP Expert
  • Method development and validation experience
  • Experience in calibration of laboratory equipment
