JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS The Morgan Academic Center (MAC) at Penn State University is seeking dedicated, motivated individuals for the role of Learning Services Assistant. This position aligns with Penn State's core mission to educate and support individual students through integrated programs of teaching and service. By fostering an environment of respect and community, LSAs will contribute to our commitment to excellence in overall student development and academic success. This role embodies our values of integrity in all interactions, exhibits responsibility in guiding and supporting student-athletes' journeys of discovery and personal growth. This part-time position is on a semesterly basis for the academic year for 2025-26 (July-December), with an opportunity for renewal (January - June). The role is limited to a maximum of (25) hours per week; hours may vary and may include evenings and Sundays. Position Details:
- Time Commitment: 10-month position with renewal opportunity
- Hours: Part-time, maximum 25 hours per week
- Pay: $23/hour (non-negotiable)
- Schedule: Variable hours including evenings and weekends (Sunday)
- Work Environment: Fast-paced, collaborative, student-centered.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work one-on-one with an assigned caseload of student-athletes by assessing academic needs, creating and providing instructional support for tailored academic support plans to improve academic self-efficacy and learning outcomes.
- Enhance learning in areas including goal setting, time management, organization, note-taking, college reading and writing, study and test preparation, self-advocacy, critical thinking and problem-solving.
- Monitor student progress and foster academic growth and development through weekly scheduled appointments with assigned students.
- Write session reports, attend ongoing professional development trainings, and uphold all compliance rules as well as MAC policies and procedures.
- Additional duties may include assisting learning services staff with ongoing projects to enhance the overall operation of the MAC's Learning Services such as tutoring, mentoring, facilitating educational sessions, and other duties as assigned.
- Execute consistent and effective communication with supervisor, MAC colleagues, students, and academic support partners.
- Maintain strict adherence to NCAA regulations, B1G Ten, university policies, and MAC procedures, uphold the highest standards of confidentiality and professional conduct.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Demonstrated ability to teach, coach, or mentor others effectively.
- Strong time management and organizational competencies
- Experience working successfully with diverse populations.
- The ability to thrive in a professional, fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable with digital platforms and academic management systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in teaching, tutoring, academic coaching, or educational support roles
- Experience in higher education student services, student development, and/or Division 1 athletic academic support
- Certification or training in learning strategies, academic coaching, or related fields
- Master's degree in special education, higher education, social work, psychology, or related field
