Position Overview

Position Summary:
Under limited supervision, will provide comprehensive, high-quality, personal, wellness and crisis counseling services as set forth by the New Mexico Counseling and Therapy Practice Board Code of Ethics.


Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide evidence-based treatments for a wide array of mental and behavioral health concerns
  • Conduct intake interviews and mental health assessments to inform clinical treatment plans
  • Conduct mental health counseling in individual and group settings
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and competency in working with the full range of diverse student groups
  • Make appropriate referrals to outside treatment providers and practitioners
  • Connect with students of concern referred by faculty and staff
  • Maintain appropriate clinical documentation
  • Provide wellness, crisis, and clinical counseling interventions
  • Assist with the planning and execution of live events to create awareness and provide education relating to the Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Plan (DAAPP)
  • Prepare and provide mental health educational programs and opportunities.
  • Support the tracking and documentation of DAAPP program statistics for Federal reporting
  • Perform licensed counselor crisis on-call duties 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for a minimum of 2 weeks out of each month
  • Complete a minimum of 40 hours of mental health, trauma, crisis, and ethics training every 2 years to maintain counseling licensure in the state of New Mexico
  • Collaborate and assist with the creation of an organized social media campaign for DAAP including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, CANVA, and X (formerly known as Twitter)
  • Perform other duties as

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • A master's degree in mental health counseling or a relevant field such as psychology, social work, or college student development
  • Ability to meet New Mexico licensure requirements for LMHC, LPCC, LMSW, or LCSW within 90 days of employment, (see New Mexico Counseling and Therapy Board Article 9: 1-30orequivalent licensure in profession)
  • Experience interacting effectively with college students from diverse ethnic backgrounds is preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of the progression of college student development.
  • Proficiency with social media platforms
    • Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly known as Twitter)
  • Proficient knowledge of and skill with computer programs to be able to manage documentation
  • Ease with public speaking and offering multimedia presentations.

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed during normal work hours but will require some evening and weekend hours to meet operational needs for on-call crisis counseling as described above under duties and responsibilities
  • Work is performed inside a non-smoking facility with regular work hours as described above under duties and responsibilities
  • Position requires median work with 10 pounds maximum weight to lift and carry
  • Position requires reaching, handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing
