The Director of Radiology is responsible for providing administrative, financial, regulatory, and operational leadership to the Department of Radiology at the hospital and provide support to outpatient local MCVP clinics. This individual is responsible for leading the delivery of outstanding patient care services to patients and ensuring that radiology is safe, effective, and aligns with the mission and vision of the VCU Health System. This position works closely with the Radiology Department Chair and organizational leadership.
Job Description

Essential Job Statements

Operational Leadership & Strategic Planning
* Oversee daily radiology operations at the hospital and outpatient clinics in the area.
* Develop and implement strategic plans for departmental growth, technology adoption, and serviceexpansion.
* Collaborate with hospital and academic leadership to align radiology services with institutionalgoals.

Financial & Resource Management
* Develop and manage the radiology department's budget, including capital equipment andoperational expenses.
* Optimize revenue cycle processes, charge capture, and reimbursement strategies.
* Monitor financial performance and adjust strategies to ensure fiscal sustainability.

Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance
* Ensure compliance with TJC, DNV, ACR, CMS, and other regulatory bodies.

Faculty & Staff Management
* Recruit, retain, and develop radiology technologists, and administrative staff.
* Oversee staffing models, scheduling, and clinical workflow efficiency.
* Foster a culture of professional development, engagement, and accountability.

Technology & Equipment Oversight
* Assess and approve the purchase, maintenance, and lifecycle management of imaging equipment.
* Partner with vendors and hospital leadership to ensure service agreements meet operational needs.
* Lead initiatives for digital transformation, including PACS, AI integration, and workflowautomation.

Education & Research Collaboration
* Support academic initiatives, including residency and fellowship programs.
* Promote a culture of innovation and evidence-based practice in medical imaging.

Stakeholder & Patient Engagement
* Enhance the patient experience through improved access, scheduling efficiency, and serviceexcellence.
* Collaborate with referring physicians and interdisciplinary teams to optimize imaging services.
* Advocate for radiology's role in institutional initiatives and community outreach programs.

Patient Population: Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide equitable care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit.Demonstrates knowledge and related competencies of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age, specific needs and to provide the equitable care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.Neonates (0-4 weeks), Infant (1-12 months), Pediatrics (1-12 years), Adolescents (13-17 years), Adults (18-64 years), Geriatrics (65 years and older)

Employment Qualifications

Education Required: Bachelor's degree in related field/ Graduate of a JRC-accredited School of Radiology or Nuclear Medicine.

Education Preferred:Advanced Degree/ Master's Degree in Radiation Science, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or closely related field.

Licensing/ Certification

Licensure Required:N/A

Licensure Preferred:N/A

Certification Required:Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB)

Certification Preferred:Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) and Certified Radiology Administrator (CRA).

Minimum Qualifications

Years and Type of Required Experience: Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively more responsible Radiology supervisory/management positions.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:Extensive industry knowledge related to radiology services with a demonstrated history of delivering exceptional patient care. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required. Cultural Responsiveness.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: Ten (10) plus years of progressively more responsible Radiology supervisory/management positions.
