The KIX IT Security and Customer Services Group in the Force Projection Sector is seeking a talented Junior Software Engineer and Queue Coordinator. This hybrid role combines hands-on development work with key responsibilities in managing our support ticket workflows and reporting, providing real-world development experience while contributing to operational excellence in a dynamic environment.

As a Junior Software Engineer and Queue Coordinator, you will...

  • Collaborate with FPS operations groups to understand ticket system requirements, then work to implement workflows or enhancements to an existing platform to meet those needs.
  • Collaborate with other enterprise departments to integrate software tools and enable data sharing, primarily using APIs or similar methods.
  • Document technical specifications and user guides
  • Monitor and triage incoming IT-related incident tickets using our ticketing system (Service Desk+)
  • Follow up on ticket statuses and ensure timely response
  • Identify recurring issues and contribute to root cause analysis
  • Create, generate, and present reports for FPS operations leadership on various ticket system metrics
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you have...

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field (or possess equivalent work experience).
  • Familiarity with at least one programming language (Python, JavaScript, Java, C++, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with help desk or other customer service roles
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have experience with ticketing systems (e.g. ServiceNow, ZenDesk, FootPrints, HEAT, Service Desk+, Jira, etc.)
  • Interest in DevOps or system monitoring tools
  • Have experience working professionally in an agile development environment
  • Experience with collateral classified information systems and operations

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
