Established in 1891, Elizabeth City State University is a constituent institution of The University of North Carolina. The University currently offers 27 undergraduate and 4 graduate programs of study in fields such as aviation and natural sciences, business administration, accounting, sport management, teaching and, visual and performing arts, mathematics and computer science, social sciences and other select professional and pre-professional areas. Known for its small class sizes and student-centered approach to educating undergraduates the University is located on the beautiful northeastern coast of North Carolina in the Historic town of Elizabeth City.

The Department of Aviation and Emergency Management is the academic unit within the School of Science, Aviation, Health and Technology at Elizabeth City State University that educates, trains students and offers degrees in three of the most dynamic programs: Aviation Science, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, and Emergency Management. Aviation and Emergency Management students have a range of program options from which to choose. An experienced and dedicated faculty helps each student on an individual basis to choose the aviation program that best meets his/her career interests. The Aviation Science (Flight Education and Aviation Management tracks) are accredited by the Aviation Accreditation Board International ( AABI).
Description of Work
The Asset Manager/Aviation Lab Technician will oversee the strategic management, procurement, and operational readiness of aviation assets within the Department of Aviation and Emergency Management. This role ensures regulatory compliance, optimizes asset utilization, and manages procurement, budgeting, and inventory to support academic instruction and research.
Responsibilities include developing maintenance strategies, coordinating vendor contracts, advising faculty on equipment integration, and analyzing operational data for strategic planning. The position may require travel for training, recruitment, and industry collaboration to enhance department initiatives.
Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position
Knowledge and Skill:Technical: Thorough technical knowledge of AEM equipment and systems. Ability to independently perform full scope of repair, inspections, modifications, and maintenance. May require the ability to develop and fabricate special tools for unusual work projects. Ability to serve as a project lead, resource, or supervisor to others.

Regulatory Standards: Ability to understand and follow required protocols in assigned fields of department equipment operations and ability to interpret protocols in unusual circumstances. May require the ability to act as a lead in training or overseeing other workers in following protocol.

Administrative Operations: Ability to document inspection, maintenance, and repair operations as required by established guidelines. Ability to participate in budgeting, planning, organizing work, and setting work standards for the unit.

Human Resources Supervision (if applicable): Ability to recommend and/or make selection decision. Ability to develop and implement work plans.
Minimum Training and Experience
BS Degree required / Training dealing with Aircraft, drones, simulators and/or other related areas Education / Training dealing with Aircraft, drones, simulators and/or other related areas Possess a FAA PPL and a valid FAA 107 UAS Pilot Certification Have a good working knowledge of FAA 107, NFPA 2400 and other aviation regulations and guidelines. The ability to safely operate larger vehicles while pulling trailers. Be proficient with computer skills to use a variety of computer programs including data processing programs, Microsoft products, simulator programs and others. Proficiency in customer service, public speaking and public education in order to lead outreach missions and on campus tours of guests and prospective students. Ability to serve as an Assistant to faculty in teaching hands on skills. Experience operating large size (55lbs), high endurance UAV platforms. Have at least one year of relevant experience working with and maintaining Unmanned Aircraft Systems including a variety of drones and payloads/sensors.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
Must possess a current FAA 107 UAS Pilot License.
Management Preferences
Additional Desired but not required Qualifications
* Proficiency with Pix 4D, GIS, and UAS mission planning software.
* Experience with programming and creating parts on 3D printers.
* Familiarity with the use and repairs of flight and ATC simulators.
* Ability to operate 20' - 30' marine vessels safely.
* Fixed-wing PPL, SE Instrument or Commercial Rating
* Military experience with UAV platforms.
