This is a full-time faculty position reporting to the Dean of the Division of Communication and Arts. The instructor is responsible for teaching 15 load hours (5 classes) each Fall and Spring semester in the English department.
The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative and collegial faculty, pursuing innovative strategies across our curriculum. Recent initiatives include implementing multiple measures assessment and co-requisite developmental education courses and adopting Open Education Resources.

Essential Duties

  • Teach 5 courses in the English department, all composition courses.

  • Teach college courses to traditional and non-traditional college students, and to dual enrolled, high school students in the Early College Experience program.

  • Teach college courses that address the needs of a wide-ranging student population.

  • Teach mornings and afternoons as needed.

  • For this position, all courses are in-person sections. Two are at the Benton County campus and two are at the Washington County campus. The fifth course is online.

  • Provide that all learning outcomes for the college are achieved and optimize student retention and success.

  • Meet assigned classes, facilitate, and evaluate student learning, submit grades by established deadlines, and maintain student records in accordance with FERPA regulations.

  • Be available to students for consultation for 10 on-campus office hours per week (as directed by the college - on-campus, Teams, etc.).

  • Participate in the continued development of the English program and in program-level learning assessment.

  • Participate in the summative and formative faculty evaluation process.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities both on and off campus.

  • Remain current in the academic discipline and professional field.

  • Attend college wide meetings, division, and departmental meetings as scheduled.

  • Perform other academic as assigned by the instructor's supervisor.

Rate of pay determined by faculty scale placement (education and years of experience)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Satisfy the academic qualifications to teach English courses in the department, especially Composition I and II, Developmental English, Technical Writing, and Literature.

  • A Master's degree with at least 18 hours of English graduate credit.

  • Minimum of ONE (1) years of teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in English, Master of Fine Arts degree, or PhD in English.

  • TESOL or equivalent certification

  • Experience teaching Developmental and/or Technical Writing courses.

  • Experience teaching co-requisite courses.

  • At least THREE (3) years of teaching experience.

  • Experience teaching at a Community College.

  • Knowledge of the organization and administration of various higher education academic and social programs.

  • Knowledge of campus and community resources.

  • Knowledge of state, federal, and campus rules, regulations, and requirements related to campus academic and social programs.

  • Ability to coordinate the activities of campus academic and/or social programs.

  • Ability to evaluate collected information and formulate into recommendations.

  • Ability to compile information into report form.

Infrequently, exposure to louder noise levels or physical activities, such as moving lightweight materials, might be required.
