Position Description

Performs supervisory and coordinative work in the operation of a specific program or departmental project. Responsibilities involve the coordination and supervision of the various functions and aspects of a specific program as well as the monitoring of program staff and operational procedures. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on results obtained. May supervise program staff, volunteers and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions

The Social Media Coordinator will support the Creative Services department in implementing marketing and communication initiatives for Texas Tech Athletics. This role will contribute to the development and maintenance of digital content aimed at promoting all 17 NCAA Division I sports supported by the university.

  • Assist in managing Texas Tech Athletics' social media accounts across platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Spotify, and LinkedIn.
  • Collaborate with communications and marketing teams to ensure key messaging and information are effectively promoted via social media.
  • Maintain and manage content calendars in coordination with the communications team and various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Creatively engage fans before, during, and after events by posting dynamic content-such as highlights, photos, graphics, and GIFs-tailored to each platform.
  • Create TikTok- or Instagram Reels-style vertical videos using a mobile device.
  • Maintain the brand standards of Texas Tech Athletics and enhance the voice of its programs through proper planning and effective, consistent copy.
  • Stay up to date on social media trends, tools, and best practices.
  • Monitor analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of digital strategy and generate reports that allow us to continuously optimize strategy and workflow.
  • Assist the Promotions and Fan Engagement team with paid advertising campaigns as needed.
  • Capture and edit photography and design graphics as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with all NCAA, Big 12 Conference, and Texas Tech University rules, regulations, and policies.

Required Qualifications

High school graduation plus five (5) years progressively responsible related experience; additional related education may exchange for the required experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, digital media, or a related field.
  • Prior experience managing or publishing content for a Division I athletics program or professional sports organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically with foundational public relations skills.
  • Proficiency in managing content across major social media platforms, including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, etc.) and other content creation tools.
  • Strong understanding of social media trends, platform best practices, and emerging digital technologies.
  • Ability to perform in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment while meeting tight deadlines with a sense of urgency.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and collaborate across departments.
  • Highly motivated, flexible, detail-oriented, and well-organized.
  • Must be able to work overtime.
