We are looking for capable, innovative, and enthusiastic achievers to join our team and grow with us. We are currently seeking a Fire Battalion Chief to join our team in Charleston, TN.

What you will do:

The Fire Battalion Chief (BCs) are responsible for planning, organizing, managing, and supervising the personnel, equipment, and emergencies for their assigned battalions, and directly supervise Fire Captains and Lieutenants. BCs command and direct emergency scenes, assist in determining Wacker Fire Dept. long-range goals and objectives, assist Fire Chief in preparing and monitoring the department budget, and direct special studies or projects to promote safety and proactive stance at Wacker site. The BC is distinguished by requiring a much broader scope of managerial, fiscal, and policy and decision-making responsibility, as well as responsible for managing personnel, station, equipment, and emergencies of the department.




  • Responsible for planning, organizing, managing, and supervising the personnel, equipment, and emergencies for their assigned battalions, and directly supervise Fire Captains and Lieutenants
  • Responsible for the mitigation of emergencies through responsive and effective management of fire suppression, emergency medical, technical rope and confined space rescue, hazardous materials, and other man-made and/or natural disasters that pose a threat to the safety of the Wacker site. Mitigation of emergencies may involve performing hazardous tasks requiring strenuous physical exertion for extended periods of time in IDLH (Immediate Danger to Life and Health) surroundings.
  • Directs daily operations and supervises assigned personnel: Assure proper daily maintenance and operational readiness of apparatus, equipment, facilities, and personnel. Assure assigned personnel complete required training. Promote teamwork within the department. Authorizes and controls daily purchase of materials and supplies. Maintains appropriate daily staffing levels and manages personnel's vacations, holidays, and other absences.
  • Maintains discipline through administration of Wacker policies and procedures, including issuing discipline to the level authorized in policy, and makes effective recommendations to the Fire Chief on other related personnel actions. Accurately completes and processes forms, incident reports and other documents and ensures reporting performed by others on assigned shift are accurately completed.



What we need from you:



  • Associate's degree
  • Must have 6 years of experience in firefighting supplemented with related courses.
  • 6 years paid experience in a management role.
  • Ability to travel less than 10%.
  • Attend morning meetings for Operations Safety and Alignment as Fire Department representative.
  • Ability to carry out special and general assignments requiring organization and development of procedures without direct supervision.
  • Ability to oversee and review of buildings (departments) plans to ensure compliance with applicable fire codes, ordnances, laws, regulations, and standards regarding NFPA, OSHA, TOSHA, and EPA regulations for fire protection and life safety. Also conduct safety walk down with EHSS and assist in corrective actions or recommendations based off the above list.
  • Remain in correspondence with other departments in the development of JSA, SWP, confine space, MOC'S, and risk management in relation to fire/life safety sphere of interest. Also, to obtain knowledge and understanding of operations and procedures for all Poly/Silica divisions of Wacker of Charleston.
  • Coordinate and communicate with Wacker Physician Assistant and Medical Director to stay in compliance with all EMS protocols. Assist in development and implementation of EMS training based on protocols adopted by Wacker Site.
  • Current methods, principles, techniques, and practices applied to firefighting, fire behavior, hydraulics, fire alarm inspection, fire protection inspection, natural or man-made disasters, operation, and maintenance of firefighting equipment, working knowledge of fire extinguishing systems, fire prevention methods and fire safety and related fields.
  • Hazards of chemical properties of a variety of materials and ability to recognize environmental and workplace hazards and implement safeguards to prevent accident or injury to employees or damage to Wacker facilities and/or equipment.
