The Temporary HR Generalist provides comprehensive HR support to Operation/QA/R&D functions, overseeing union and labor relations, attendance policy management, onboarding, compliance, and worker compensation. They drive the development and implementation of HR programs to ensure operational excellence in the factory through a consultancy-based service that delivers best practices and HR solutions to support company business objectives.
Scope of Responsibilities
- Administer labor relations policies and agreements, ensuring adherence to work rules and practices.
- Support escalated employee relations concerns, including grievances and union negotiations.
- Partner with HR leadership to deploy solutions in labor/union relations, attendance policy management (ADP), compliance, and investigations.
- Provide guidance and coaching to Plant/Operations leadership and employees to resolve employee concerns in compliance with company policies and values.
- Stay connected with the Plant to understand employee perspectives by attending meetings and events.
- Enforce labor relations policies and agreements, ensuring adherence to business and union rules related to collective bargaining agreements (CBA) and attendance policy.
- Ensure HR practices comply with regulatory and legal requirements.
- Investigate and administer worker compensation claims, manage record retention, approve invoices, and create documentation. Collaborate with corporate EH&S and HR on worker's compensation case management.
- Assist in planning and organizing employee onboarding.
- Help leaders attract and retain talent to achieve business and growth objectives.
- Maintain knowledge of legal requirements related to employee management, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partner with the legal department as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including special projects.
Specific Knowledge & Skills
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's in human resources or related field a plus.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience, including 3 years in exempt-level HR role work.
- Minimum 2 years applying/administering a CBA.
- Preferred HR experience in manufacturing or production; CPG industry experience a plus.
- Bilingual fluency a plus, Spanish preferred.
- Strong critical thinking skills for process improvement and resolving complex matters.
- Excellent client management and business literacy skills to interpret business objectives and recommend people-centric solutions.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects with attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of work-related issues and company information.
- Able to develop tools and programs to support positive change in the client organization.
- Current knowledge of state and federal employment law, with emphasis on California labor law.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Required to regularly sit
- Must be able to work seated or standing for at least 8 hours
- Must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time paying close attention to detail.
- Works in a regular office environment
- Scheduling flexibility to support a 3-shift operation
- In support of the operations team, working in the field is occasionally required. Conditions in the field include:
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders,
- Will be exposed to heat, cold, water, dust, confined spaces, elevated areas, dirt, ash particles and fuel particles
- Exposure to vibration, moving mechanical parts and loud noise
- Capable of using protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses/goggles, safety shoes, hearing protection, masks, etc.
Pay: $40-$50 Hourly
