The General Industrial Innovation Group is seeking a Senior Chemist to join the innovation team to develop and commercializing new powder coatings products. This individual will work closely with Technical Management, Sales and Marketing, Corporate and Divisional Innovation resources and the Commercial Laboratories to develop the next generation of General Industrial Powder products.

Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. The Company therefore has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and is necessary to protect the safety of the Company's staff, employees, and business relationships.



  • Create new and innovative powder coating technologies to serve the General Industrial marketplace.
  • Develop and manufacture laboratory scale powder paint coatings with conventional and novel raw materials to meet specific performance requirements.
  • Prepare and test powder coating formulations with various application methods and QC metrics to assure quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Assist with manufacturing and scale up support when required along with customer interactions to ensure success across the entire value chain.
  • Interact with the technical and marketing teams in business units to identify product/technology needs and challenges, provides technical input and support as required.
  • Working with a team and independently, develop solutions to overcome technical barriers of powder technology development.
  • Ensure appropriate IP protection by timely submitting invention disclosure and patent application.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members to solve problems efficiently within a matrix organization.
  • Interact with internal and external vendors to capture new technologies for coatings as well as direct their development.
  • Support competitive monitoring of focus areas relevant to PCG business units.
  • Leverage learnings and good practices to PCG business units.
  • Train and/or guide junior level chemists.
  • Adhere to all quality and safety policies and procedures.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS



  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
  • 4+ years of experience working with powder coating technology
  • 5+ years of experience in an industrial R&D setting
  • Must understand polymer structure and property relationships
  • Must understand coating chemistry/crosslinking reactions and curing mechanisms
  • Must have problem solving, project management, and presentation skills
  • Apply professional chemistry principles and practices
  • Operate a variety of types of laboratory equipment
  • Formulate/modify coatings as needed
  • Interpret and apply department policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules, and regulations
  • Communicate technical information
  • Solve problems and recommend solutions
  • Prioritize daily project tasks
  • Apply a general understanding of the paint manufacturing process
  • Utilize Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Minitab, and other applicable applications
  • Communicate with co-workers to provide and receive direction.
  • Understand the basic principles of Lean Six Sigma methodology for design and manufacturing environments
  • Utilize 6S safety/cleanliness methodology and follow all plant safety procedures
  • Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to determine the difference between colors so you can correctly tint paint to the colors desired by customers.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Master's Degree or higher in a Science related area.
  • Strong knowledge of Powder coatings formulation and manufacturing methodology including TGIC / HAA / Hybrids / Acrylic / FEVE technology types
  • 7+ years of experience in an industrial R&D setting
  • 6+ years of experience relevant to industrial coating technology
  • Knowledge and experience with Stage Gate product development methods
  • Knowledge and experience with analytical and materials science tools
  • Knowledge and experience with DFSS and DOE
  • Knowledge and experience with Patent Filing and Intellectual property procedures
  • Exhibit an in depth understanding of coating formulation and how it relates to coating requirements
  • Expertise in Design for Six Sigma (DFSS)
