Summary

Assists nursing staff in the rooms with patient care by positioning, transferring of anesthetized patients, and cleaning operating rooms at the conclusion of surgical cases. Provides general non-technical assistance to the nursing staff. In addition, the Lead Perioperative Technical Assistant provides administrative and leadership support to the daily operations of the Operating Room Support Services.Oversees and audits employees' work performance. Trains new colleagues and provides feedback to colleagues and management. Creates and monitors Periop. Technical Assistants' schedules and daily assignments to ensure adequate coverage and efficiencies in work flow.The Perioperative Lead Technical Assistant is expected to have a flexible schedule and cover early and late shifts as needed.

Job Duties

  • Participates in activities designed to increase the productivity and efficiency of the operating room.
  • Performs effective cleaning and disinfection of the operating rooms after surgical cases
  • Ensures availability of instruments and supplies needed and assists with opening of supplies and instruments.
  • Promotes a positive patient surgical experience by partnering with the surgical team to provide excellence in customer service within the surgical environment with age-appropriate responsibilities.
  • Creates and monitors Periop. Technical Assistants' schedules
  • Assists with the transportation of patients to and from the operating room.
  • Performs appropriate care and handling of patient specimens
  • Audits employees' job performance
  • Trains new colleagues and provides feedback to colleagues and management.
  • Creates daily assignments to ensure adequate coverage and efficiencies in work flow

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 year as a Perioperative Technical Assistant.
  • Demonstrates mature and conscientious behavior.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and technical skills.
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of emotional intelligence.
  • Takes accountability.
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and leads by example.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania within 90 Days

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree

Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
