ABOUT THE ROLE

The T&D Estimator I/II is an integral part of the electrical construction process and ensures competitiveness, profitability, and growth. The T&D Estimator I/II is responsible for preparing cost estimates for various transmission, distribution and substation electrical construction projects.

Sturgeon Electric's powerline, or Transmission and Distribution (T&D) construction division provides a full range of capabilities related to transmission, distribution, and substation construction.

Essential Functions

  • Complete cost estimates for assigned projects, with definable work tasks for transmission, distribution and substation projects
  • Develop complex estimates with minor errors/omissions
  • Utilize previous work/bidding history to establish production assumptions
  • Track and compare project histories to produce up to date man hours and cost
  • Plan and execute work while meeting customer defined submission deadlines
  • Schedule and attend field job walk with customer, subcontractor, and construction personnel to determine constructability requirements
  • Attend on site pre-bid meetings and perform job site visits
  • Field job walks and pre-bid meeting may require travel/overnight stays
  • Identify qualified suppliers/subcontractors
  • Perform accurate material takeoffs to supply to vendor for pricing
  • Solicit material vendor pricing and subcontractor proposals, including assembly and distribution of project documentation into RFQ/RFP packages
  • Prepare commercial aspects of proposals, including work plans, clarifications/exceptions, etc.
  • Proficient in analyzing construction and electrical drawings to accurately formulate an estimate
  • Compare various project documents for accuracy and consistency
  • Perform operational contract redlines and coordinate with the legal department, and understand how contractual items affect the bid/work
  • Prepare billing per customer requirements, and execute change orders
  • Create/utilize a construction schedule
  • Participate in job close-out meetings at the end of a project to close any loops in the estimating process
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Participate in estimate review process with internal and external stake holders
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Essential functions of this position are to be performed in a Company-designated office or
    field location
  • Understand and comply with the Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Policy and
    other industry-specific professional and ethical standards, if applicable

ABOUT YOU

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 - 3 years of Estimating experience for the Estimator I
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years of Estimating experience for the Estimator II
  • 2+ years' experience in Transmission, Distribution or Substation Preferred for Estimator II preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field; combination of relevant education and experience considered in lieu of degree

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Able to read and understand civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, etc. plans and specifications to include blueprints, proposals and other relevant documents
  • Knowledgeable of electrical materials and methods of installation
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal, and written
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and changing priorities as necessary
  • Ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude
  • Ability to be self-motivated, proactive and an effective team player
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, both management and staff alike, vendors, clients, and other
  • Self-driven with the ability to stay on-task for extended periods of time while working independently

WHAT WE OFFER

Compensation & Benefits

Estimator I Salary $75,000 - $110,000 / year
Estimator II Salary $90,000 - $130,000/ year

Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
