POSITION SUMMARY:

The PRN Specialty Pharmacist plays a key support role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care by ensuring the safe and accurate compounding and dispensing of specialty medications. This position is critical in maintaining continuity of service during peak periods, staff absences, or as additional coverage is needed.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • Ensure the accurate preparation, verification, and dispensing of medications in accordance with regulatory and organizational policies.
  • Maintain thorough documentation and record-keeping practices to ensure compliance and safety.
  • Support patient care services, including medication counseling, adherence follow-ups, and enrollment support.
  • Collaborate with providers, liaisons, and specialty clinic staff to ensure patients receive timely and effective therapy.
  • Perform medication reconciliation and clinical verification within the EMR to support treatment accuracy and safety.
  • Utilize pharmacy management systems and electronic platforms (e.g., Charter, EMR, CoverMyMeds) to streamline workflow.
  • Provide coverage as needed to support workflow continuity across various specialties within the health system.
  • Uphold compliance with all legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards, including those related to the 340B program.
  • Participate in site development activities, quality improvement initiatives, or team huddles as needed.

EDUCATION:

  • A Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy program is required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • An active Pharmacist licensure (in good standing) to practice pharmacy in the state in which you are applying in.
  • Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP) credential is preferred but not required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 2+ years' work experience in ambulatory care pharmacy setting post PharmD is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Strong understanding of specialty pharmacy workflows and regulations.
  • Ability to adapt quickly in fast-paced, patient-centered environments.
  • Excellent communication and clinical collaboration skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy, quality, and compliance.
  • Proficiency in common healthcare software platforms and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Knowledge of the 340B Drug Pricing Program is preferred.

Special Working Conditions (On-call, travel, shift, coverage):

  • This is a per diem (PRN) position, requiring flexible availability to support operations on an as-needed basis.
  • May include occasional holiday or weekend coverage, depending on site needs.
