Job Description: Supports both internal and external customers of the MedEligible department by working with patient referrals for financial assistance. Responsible for call resolution, counseling patients with financial hardship and provide account resolution utilizing multiple systems. May perform final assessment and review of unsuccessful accounts and complete the necessary steps to close the account and initiate the self-pay process.
Principle Responsibilities
- Customer Service.
- Professionally handle inbound phone calls to ensure one call resolution and document required information via system applications. Review all voicemails and return the call or forward voicemail to appropriate team member.
- Counsels patients experiencing financial hardship and route them to the appropriate area. Recommend programs that would best fit their needs based on knowledge of financial assistance program requirements.
- Maintains accuracy of patient records by updating account information.
- Contacts patients and/or healthcare providers to obtain signatures on registration forms, consents or to obtain insurance information. Contacts patients and/or insurances to resolve issues, such as coordination of benefits and information discrepancies.
- Performs final assessment and review of unsuccessful accounts and complete the necessary steps to close the account and initiate the self-pay process.
- De-escalates basic situations including customer complaints.
- Processing New Referrals.
- Receives all MedEligible insurance and Social Security referrals; must be able to assess and analyzes patient visit information to determine what type of referral is needed based on knowledge of state and federal programs. Assigns referrals to the appropriate team member.
- Responsible to complete new referral batches throughout the day to ensure all referrals are loaded into the appropriate system.
- Assists Social Security Advocate Senior with client appointments and update appropriate system as needed.
- Approval Preparation.
- Verifies insurance eligibility and contact insurance companies as needed to verify coverage and resolve insurance disputes.
- Validates all eligible accounts are included in approval process and note in all appropriate systems. Submit account for final approval.
- This may include adding coverage to the account for billing.
- Administrative Support.
- Works variance reports to resolve account discrepancies. Complete all work necessary to correct the error in the appropriate systems.
- Posts payments/checks to department systems and validate that transactions are balanced.
- Completes medical record requests for Social Security appeal cases when appropriate.
- Obtains employment and bank verifications from patient's employer or bank to process patient's financial assistance application.
- Completes skip tracing to verify patient demographics.
- Sorts mail, scan into the system and forward mail to the appropriate person, scan documents to document storage, review incoming faxes.
- Provides back up to the ARS Office Coordinator and other MedEligible Coordinators as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required functional competencies as listed on the job description
- 1 year experience in customer service, healthcare, insurance and benefit verification. May have expertise in healthcare, and/or finance. Proficient with computers and programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Proven strong customer service skills with an exceptional ability to listen and communicate to others
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Associate's or Vocational degree
- 1 year experience within MedEligible Services, Financial counseling or revenue cycle background

Pay Range
Pay Range: $21.55 to $29.35 per hour
The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
