ServiceNow Principal Engineer
The ServiceNow Principal Engineer will lead platform engineering and architectural initiatives across complex ServiceNow implementations, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions. This role requires deep expertise in ServiceNow's architecture, modules, and integration capabilities, while collaborating across enterprise teams, vendors, and leadership. The engineer will provide thought leadership in platform strategy, development standards, performance tuning, and ServiceNow best practices to deliver robust, enterprise-grade solutions. Engineer and design scalable solutions across ServiceNow modules (ITSM, ITOM, CSM, HRSD, etc.), with a focus on platform optimization, security, and performance. Lead technical evaluations of business requirements and translate them into sustainable, high-performing ServiceNow solutions. Develop integration strategies using REST, SOAP, MID Servers, and external APIs, including event-driven and messaging frameworks. Define system and networking requirements in collaboration with infrastructure and cloud teams to ensure high availability and resilience of the platform. Serve as an escalation point for complex problem resolution, performance bottlenecks, and architectural decisions. Implement DevOps and CI/CD strategies for ServiceNow development, including automated testing, deployment pipelines, and governance compliance. Mentor developers and technical leads, enforcing ServiceNow development standards and promoting a culture of engineering excellence. Monitor platform KPIs and drive continuous improvement efforts through technical innovation.

Position Responsibilities:

Design and Methodology



  • Work closely with business units, application teams, infrastructure areas and vendors to identity, review and evaluate the solution requirements.
  • Investigate and propose strategic fits for virtualization, consolidation and rationalization solution opportunities within the infrastructure or business.
  • Propose changes to the technical architecture and design solutions as applicable.
  • Evaluate and align strategic fit solutions across infrastructure platforms and solutions specific to system hardware and software technologies.
  • Understand, participate, review and influence long term capacity planning and technology investments.


Technical Consulting



  • Provide Client consulting and planning guidance as applicable for moderate to large highly complex projects/programs.
  • Provide consultation and works closely with other functional infrastructure areas/departments on multiple initiatives to meet common organizational / business goals and objectives.
  • Participate in and provides consulting to project teams on architectural, design development, integration opportunities, planning of highly complex systems and assures it is aligned to our established strategies, guiding principles, rationales and practices.


Planning and Organizing



  • Identify and evaluate projects/programs/initiatives and design processes that enhance and rationalize existing and upcoming solutions.
  • Map requirements into standard services solution, identity opportunities for integrating to existing or reuse technology and provide cost effective solutions for moderate to large highly complex project/programs/initiatives.
  • Review, identify and manage requirements for moderate to complex solutions and do a cost value, feasibility and risk analysis.


Risk Management



  • Review, participate, develop and update architectural standards, guiding principles, rationales and strategies.
  • Evaluate, review and approve highly complex design solutions for business and Infrastructure project or programs or initiatives.


Position Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Computer Science, Engineering or in a Technology related field, OR equivalent through a combination of education and/or technology experience, OR 12 years of technology experience
  • 12 years in identifying technical solutions for complex business problems, identifying the benefits and risks of the solutions and providing recommendations
  • 7 years of Technology experience
  • 5 years of experience mentoring another technologist
  • 4 years of hands-on ServiceNow experience including architecture, development, and implementation of platform solutions
  • 3 years of expertise in multiple ServiceNow modules (e.g., ITSM, ITOM, HRSD, CSM, or custom scoped apps)
  • This position is not eligible for sponsorship. Must have indefinite employment authorization.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Strong hands-on Messaging & Integration Technology integration/development/implementation experience
  • Experience with IBM MQ, Active MQ, Apigee, AWS API Gateway, IBM ACE
  • AWS Certification preferred
  • Finance/Fintech/Middleware/Messaging expert knowledge
  • Experience designing and maintaining complex ServiceNow integrations using REST, SOAP, MID Server, and external APIs
  • Strong understanding of ServiceNow platform performance tuning, security models, and high availability architecture
  • Demonstrated experience with ServiceNow DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks (e.g., ATF)
  • Certified ServiceNow System Administrator; additional certifications (e.g., CIS - ITSM, ITOM, or Application Developer) strongly preferred
