What you'll do:

We are seeking an experienced, business development-focused individual to join the Western Alliance Bank Note Financing Sales Team. This position is primarily focused on managing an existing loan portfolio and developing new revolving lines of credit, treasury and depository relationships with residential and commercial private real estate lenders located in New York. This role serves as a sales leader and liaison between the internal and external teams in the management of the Note Financing loan portfolio and works with the Note Financing Sales and Credit Teams to actively manage target borrower loan origination, negotiation, underwriting, closing activities, and portfolio performance reporting. This is position is based in the bank's New York office and requires up to 50% travel, including visiting subject properties and working at Bank offices.

The Vice President, Commercial Banking is responsible for soliciting, negotiating, underwriting, and coordinating the closing of major and complex commercial and business loans with a primary focus on revolving lines of credit secured by real estate notes and includes pursuing related deposit and cross-sell opportunities. The position is responsible for attaining established individual, division, and corporate goals through active participation in sales management and sales officer call programs. This position involves heavy focus on managing and originating the Note Financing asset class with significant time spent in both the sales management and sales monitoring role (the external customer) as well as the credit and credit-monitoring role (the internal customer).

  • Identifies and prioritizes target borrowers.
  • Engages in business development activities and solicitation of new business based on the target borrower.
  • Calls and visits target customers to promote and sell Bank products and services to establish a new note financing portfolio book of business and cross sell single note and borrowing base note finance opportunities.
  • Develops and maintains customer data base including calls and results on all new business relationships. Makes reports to superiors as required and contributes on monthly and quarterly reporting and strategy.
  • Interviews prospective applicants and requests specified information related to loan or credit application; corresponds or re-interviews applicants to resolve questions regarding application information.
  • Performs basic pre-qualification assessment and analysis of financial condition and risk of financing requests within framework of Bank credit culture and current economic and industry trends.
  • Takes ownership in accumulating and reviewing all information necessary to formulate and present a financing request to senior management, Division Chief Credit Officer and loan committee. Meets with new/potential customers; visiting sites of loans; negotiates loan terms and conditions and recommends acceptance for approval.
  • Coordinates processing of approved loans; ensures loans are processed according to agreement, customer needs and conform to Bank lending policies; obtains sufficient information and/or documentation from customers; solves problems relative to processing and servicing of loans within the portfolio.
  • Maintains a superior knowledge of financial industry status and trends.
  • Represents the Bank at various conferences; assists the Bank in establishing and maintaining market position in the financing arena.
  • Work with internal partners to develop and deploy economic strategy.
  • Prepare customer presentation materials
  • Help to maintain and monitor sales pipelines for the products assigned. Work with internal partners to ensure accuracy and timely follow-up with clients
  • Defining, monitoring, and tracking KPIs and developing concrete point of view on insights to present to leadership.
  • Assess risk exposure and controls for new Note Financing clients.
  • Areas of key focus include:

    Note Finance:

  • Collaborate with Sales Manager and Credit Manager to manage existing loan portfolio and deepen relationships with existing borrowers that includes selling treasury products.
  • Prioritize loan opportunities that maximize economics within annual loan goals and allocations.
  • Originate new deal flow - working deals from term sheet creation and negation, credit underwriting, through to legal documentation/closing.
  • Portfolio management.
  • Cross sell to new and existing customer base to grow relationships with a focus on Treasury Management Products and Deposits.
  • Attend select national Note Financing and industry conferences.
  • Work with Interest Rate Hedging and Treasury Management Sales teams to expand borrower relationships.
  • Assist in managing key relationships with internal and external partners and vendors.
  • Maintain timely pipeline integrity.
  • Industry research - summarize market updates for management.

What you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university andseven (7) or more years of in Commercial Real Estate Lending experience and/or training with the ability to concurrently manage and assess broad strategies and execute against multiple priorities,or a combination of experience and education.
    • Work related experience must consist of a basic lending background including negotiating, underwriting and coordinating the closing of a variety of major and complex consumer, residential, equipment, SBA, commercial building and business loans; relationship development, experience in the financial services industry.
    • Educational experience, through in-house training sessions, formal school or financial industry related curriculum, should be business or financial industry related.
  • Knowledge of related state and federal banking compliance regulations, and other Bank operational policies.
  • Knowledge and experience in financial statement and tax return analysis typically resulting from a combination of education in accounting, financial and/or credit analysis or related areas.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Bank lending procedures, Bank policies and procedures, and the Bank's products and services.
  • Extensive knowledge in all facets of relationship management.
  • Exceptional analytical skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Detail-oriented, with ability to influence, collaborate and communicate across all levels and lines of business, internal resources and external vendors.
  • Ability to work in a very rapid, ever changing, ambiguous environment and work collaboratively in a team structure. Demonstrate strong analytical skills and ability to handle ambiguous and complex situations.
  • Advanced skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation; word processing, spreadsheet software programs required for Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Deep understanding of Regulation D private debt funds, REITS, and experience working with private placement memorandums and associated GAAP Accounting Practices.
Compensation: Salary range for new hires is generally $163,640.00 - $171,821.00 for New York, NY. Salary amount is determined by specific job location. In addition, the role may be eligible for annual bonus/incentives earned and restricted stock.
