About the Department |
The Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences consists of 36 faculty who have a variety of research and teaching interests. Included among our faculty are 11 clinical faculty, affording students the opportunity to participate in research projects with a direct clinical correlation to veterinary and/or human medicine. Our research faculty are housed in a biomedical Research Building with 104,000 gross sq. ft., which opened in the summer of 2004. Thus, new, state-of-the-art research facilities are available to the research faculty in the department. Included in the new Research Building is a transgenic mouse facility, permitting the opportunity for graduate students to participate in research projects related to mouse and animal genomics. Essential Job Duties |
The broad objective of the project is to investigate the function of genes and proteins in genetic mice developed and under development in the laboratory of Dr. Troy Ghashghaei.
The individual who fills this position will assist in ongoing projects in the laboratory.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for breeding and maintenance of genetic mice in our mouse colony.
- Supports, develops, designs/executes moderately complex research activities for multiple research projects through recording, photo-documenting, interpreting and evaluating PCR- based genotyping data.
- Under the management of the PI, assists in formulating research methods and suggests options for improving quality and solutions of experiments within the lab. Asks relevant scientific questions to help further experiments within the lab.
- Supervises and trains undergraduate and graduate students as well as temporary employees in the use of the mouse colony, including mouse handling and breeding procedures.
- Responsible for all aspect of managing the lab including equipment, supplies, purchasing.
- Accountable for ensuring lab safety procedures are understood and followed and for maintaining associated documentation.

Other Responsibilities |
- May contribute or assist other with publications, reports and draft manuscripts; may co-present results with Principal Investigator at meetings and/or conferences.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree in developmental neurobiology or other science related to research field, plus three or more years of relevant experience.
|
Other Required Qualifications |
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Demonstrated research experience in cell and molecular biology.
