Job Summary:



This position entails intensive research into how chromosome entanglements, persisting from prior replication difficulties, are dealt with in mitosis. This research involves molecular genetic manipulation of fission yeast as well as mammalian cells, structural analysis of DNA molecules purified from cells, extensive quantitative microscopy and cell culture.

Key Responsibilities:



  • 30% of time: Contribute to conceptual and experimental design for project, solve experimental problems, plan each approach from start to finish. Analyze and interpret data, in consultation with PI. Learn, understand and contribute to all other colleagues' projects in the lab. Read relevant literature. Participate actively in lab and departmental meetings. Present research and learn about others' research in seminars and posters at national and international conferences. Plan, prepare and revise manuscripts in consultation with PI. Plan, prepare and revise grant proposals in consultation with PI.
  • 70% of time: Fission yeast strain construction and husbandry; mammalian cell culture. Genetic manipulation of both yeast and mammalian cells; cell synchronization. Molecular analysis of DNA arrangement and structure including pulsed field gel electrophoresis, southern blots, purification of entangled DNA from mitotic cells, analysis by electron microscopy and enzyme sensitivity. Phosphoproteomic screen implementation and analysis including bioinformatics; synthetic genetic array screen implementation and analysis. Extensive microscopy of fission yeast and mammalian cells, both live and fixed, structured illumination microscopy, quantitative image analysis.

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.



  • Ph.D. in molecular or cell biology, genetics or a related field. At least 5 years experience and deep understanding of chromosome biology and yeast genetics.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Expertise in protein purification and analysis of posttranslational modifications. Expertise in genomewide screening approaches and bioinformatic analysis. Demonstration of experimental rigor and innovativeness. Excellent communication skills.
