Job Summary |
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas is seeking highly qualified candidates for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in uncertainty quantification in experimental fluid mechanics. We are looking for a creative, independent, and highly motivated individual with a strong background in laboratory measurements to work on quantifying uncertainties in various fluid dynamic measurement techniques, including single point measurements, particle image velocimetry (
PIV) flow visualizations, and laser Doppler anemometry (
LDA), with applications in aerodynamics and air-sea interactions. |
Minimum Education and Experience |
Ph.D in a related field. |
Preferred Education and Experience |
- Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or an equivalent terminal degree by the time the appointment begins.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience in experimental fluid mechanics, including hot-wire, ultrasonic, and laser anemometers, PIV, shadowgraph, and/or Schlieren techniques.
- Candidates should have a track record in developing LabVIEW scripts and APIs for target-specific applications, along with experience working with data acquisition (DAQ) systems.
- Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, and LabVIEW programming languages is essential.
- Demonstrated research experience with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications in fluid dynamics, turbulence, air-sea interactions, or uncertainty quantification.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
Conduct Experimental Research: Design, execute, and analyze laboratory experiments related to uncertainty quantification in fluid dynamics using advanced measurement techniques such as
PIV,
LDA, and hot-wire, ultrasonic, and laser anemometers.
Develop Measurement Techniques: Innovate and refine experimental methodologies to quantify uncertainties in fluid dynamic measurement systems.
Experimental Data Analysis: Utilize
MATLAB, Python, and LabVIEW to develop
DAQ systems, analyze experimental data, and create custom scripts and APIs.
Research Dissemination: Prepare and publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at academic and professional conferences.
Collaborative Research Projects: Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary research teams on projects related to aerodynamics and air-sea interactions, contributing to proposal development and project management.
Maintain Laboratory Equipment: Ensure proper operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment, including troubleshooting technical issues related to fluid mechanics experimental setups.
Mentorship and Training: Provide guidance to graduate and undergraduate students in experimental techniques, data analysis, and research methodologies. |
