Job Summary

To reduce corporate liability and minimize company losses due to theft of corporate products by physical or fraudulent means; thereby, promoting public safety through resolution of safety hazards, deterring future losses, and facilitating customer service.

Job Responsibilities
  • Conducts statistical analysis of accounts to identify potential sources for investigation of meter tampering, improper metering, or diversion.
  • Conducts proactive field investigations of metering equipment of accounts to identify diversion or meter tampering.
  • Calculates lost revenues due to diversion, improper metering, or meter tampering of accounts.
  • Execute all revenue protection activities for the corporation.
  • Identify and validate cases of energy theft and/or fraud through analysis of information received from internal and external sources.
  • Coordinate and conduct investigations into the physical theft of electricity, natural gas and steam through site visits, interviews, database searches, photography and other evidence collection.
  • Coordinate and conduct investigations of theft by fraud/misappropriation of personal identification information through site visits, interviews, database searches, photography and other evidence collection.
  • Evaluate safety hazards and take appropriate actions to ensure their remediation; expedite and ensure customer compliance with Public Service Commission regulations, municipal safety and code regulations, and report non-compliance to appropriate agencies
  • Coordinate the installation of surveillance equipment to determine usage & patterns; collect and analyze data for rebilling and/or prosecution in a court of law.
  • Collect and maintain case related evidence using proper collection and documentation procedures.
  • Conduct joint investigations with law enforcement agencies, municipal code inspectors, bank officials, other utilities, Public Service Commission, and other governmental agencies.
  • Perform investigative searches through databases.
  • Educate business units on the identification and prevention of theft/fraud against the corporation as well as the safety and liability issues associated with theft/fraud.
  • Document investigations and related evidence collection by creating and maintaining fluent and concise investigative reports.
  • Evaluate cases for criminal prosecution (misdemeanor/felony) and refer to appropriate law enforcement agencies. Provide expert testimony in civil and criminal court actions.
  • Track and monitor cases to ensure appropriate resolution.
Minimum Experience Required
  • 5 years of law enforcement or investigation in the criminal justice system or field utility experience OR 3 years' experience and bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a related field
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or Equivalent Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or Equivalent Experience

End Date: 04/25/2025

Pay Range Minimum: $66,898.00

Pay Range Maximum: $100,347.00

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs. At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
