This is a 60% to 100% Limited position for 1 year with the possibility of extension or conversion to career status.

DESCRIPTION

Dr. Christine Harris' Emotion lab uses a variety of research methods to examine questions pertaining to the emotion of envy such as who is prone to envy, how can envy be reduced, and what effects does envy have on social and political attitudes.

This position is a limited appointment lab manager position for Dr. Christine Harris' Emotion laboratory (housed in the Department of Psychology, UC San Diego).

The lab uses a variety of research methods to examine questions pertaining to the emotion of envy such as who is prone to envy, how can envy be reduced, and what effects does envy have on social and political attitudes.

The lab manager's responsibilities will center on research activities including recruiting, scheduling, and testing participants; creating experimental protocols and experimental stimuli; and training and managing undergraduate RAs to collect and code data. The position will also involve administrative duties such as maintaining and purchasing lab equipment; maintaining IRB protocols and participant databases; and maintaining the lab website. The lab manager will also organize and attend weekly lab meetings. The position will involve working closely with the PI and other senior researchers in the lab and will provide the opportunity to build skills in designing experiments and analyzing, presenting, and publishing data.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Competitive candidates will have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent and will have completed coursework in psychology, cognitive science, behavioral economics, and/or a closely related field.

  • Experience assisting with behavioral or social psychological research.

  • General computer skills are required, and experience with software for designing experiments, organizing data, and performing statistical analysis is a plus.

  • The ideal candidate will have managerial experience or will have demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills in a work environment. The position is ideal for a recent college graduate interested in gaining research experience before deciding whether to pursue graduate study.

  • Demonstrated skill interacting with colleagues and other adults in a professional setting.

  • Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, and attention to detail.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience with computer software, including electronic mail, word processing and databases (PC and/or Mac, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).

  • Knowledge of Psychology.

  • Some course work and/or experience with basic statistical analysis and software.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $45,999 - $54,079 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $22.03 - $25.90

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
