The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics.
In addition to instruction in the classroom, field, and laboratory, our students have opportunities for experiential learning on and off campus, including a growing emphasis on international experiences through short- and long-term study abroad. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state. |

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Program Coordinator II: Urban Farm Coordinator for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Program Coordinator II provides support to unit management by assisting with the coordination and administration of programs, projects, and/or processes and with the planning, preparation, and control of communications, events, records, statistics, reports, and documents.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Supports unit management by assisting with urban farm and garden efforts with a focus on providing fresh produce grown on site to food-insecure Rutgers students and community residents.
- Assists with the analysis of various administrative documents and program data, create routine informational materials, and aid in promotional areas of marketing support.
- Arranges and coordinates logistics and assists with content of events and meetings such as coordinating activities of student workers, interns, volunteers, and community members to complete garden-related tasks and to distribute produce from the growing spaces to end users.
- Assists with coordinating community garden plots with participating members and other programming that supports community and student engagement.
- Supports the Assistant Director in maintaining records for the urban farm and garden spaces, compiling seed and supply orders, identifying problems, and implementing growing practices and systems as directed.
- Work is performed under direct supervision, with specific instructions on routine or semi-routine work and established work parameters for the unit.
- Work is usually reviewed upon completion.
- Performs professional work that requires knowledge of general program coordination practices and the basic application and use of concepts, theories, and terminology of the organization.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- A bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of sustainable farm and food systems operations.

Certifications/Licenses |
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
|
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) written and spoken language skills commensurate with job duties.
- Must successfully complete the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course upon hire.
- Requires good communication skills and computer literacy.
- This position requires the ability to learn new skills such as hands-on agricultural field skills, the operation of basic farm equipment, and practical, applied knowledge, as well as a creative thinking-centered approach to problem solving and the ability to positively engage with diverse groups of stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications |
- One growing season of hands-on field experience growing diversified vegetables as part of small-scale farming for commercial food production.
- Experience with food security issues and activities.
- Experience working with and leading volunteer groups.
- Possession of a pesticide applicator's license, or willingness to obtain one.

- Manual and mechanized farm tools and motorized landscape equipment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 lbs.
- Must be able to perform physical work outdoors in all types of weather, year-round.
- Must be comfortable working in a dynamic, urban environment

- Must be available to work weekends and evenings as needed.
- Use of personal vehicle may be necessary.
