Position Summary

Managing the crew of the vessel and ensuring their safety through implementation of policies and procedures.


Duties And Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL :

  • Ensure safe and efficient navigation and operation of the vessel.
  • Direct or coordinate crew members or workers performing activities such as loading or unloading cargo, steering vessels, operating engines, or operating, maintaining, or repairing ship equipment.
  • Inspect vessel to ensure safety of crew, passengers, and environment.
  • Aid in the training and development of crew members as outlined in company policy and procedures.
  • Learn and Implement company and vessel policies and procedures.
  • Maintain records of daily activities, prepare progress reports, and personnel reports.
  • Maintain flag state and regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize navigational aids, such as radars, ECDIS, Radios, GPS, lights, buoys to avoid hazards to the vessel.
  • Remain fully informed and adhere to all relevant laws, regulations and directives affecting the operation of the vessel.
  • Compute positions, set courses, and determine speeds, using charts, area plotting sheets, compasses, sextants, and knowledge of local conditions
  • Coordinate activities of crewmembers that are responsible for operating safety equipment such as: the ship's life boats, FRC, anchor windless and radio.

  • Two (2) to three (3) years minimum Multi Service Vessel (MSV) experience.
  • Vessel experience within the Survey, Research and oil and gas industry.
  • Knowledge of Safety Management System "SMS" shipboard procedures.
  • Merchant Mariner's Credential. "Oceans".
  • License with a minimum rating of 10,000 ITC or Unlimited. (NO OSV Endorsements).
  • STCW (Standard Training and Watch Keeping Certification).
  • ECDIS.
  • ARPA.
  • Radar.
  • DPO Unlimited Certification.
  • GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) Radio Operator's License.
  • Safe Gulf experience.
  • HLO / HLO Fire.
  • Valid TWIC card.
  • Valid Passport.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a government security clearance.

For 1600 GRT/3000 ITC Endorsements

  • Two (2) to three (3) years minimum Multi Service Vessel (MSV) experience.
  • Vessel experience within the oil and gas industry.
  • Knowledge of SMS shipboard procedures.
  • Merchant Mariner's Credential.
  • License with a 1600 GRT/3000 ITC rating upon Oceans.
  • STCW (Standard Training and Watch Keeping Certification).
  • DPO Unlimited Certification.
  • GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) Radio Operator's License.
  • ARPA.
  • Safe Gulf experience.
  • Valid TWIC card.
  • Valid Passport.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a government security clearance.

PREFERRED:

  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Vocational training.
  • DP II Experience.
  • OIM Endorsement.
  • Security clearance.

Additional Information

WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position is considered OFFSHORE WORK which is characterized as follows.

  • Outdoors and indoors, day and night, as well as over/near water.
  • Requires working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment.
  • Frequently the humidity is above 90%, noise is over 85 decibels and the light is intense/glare.
  • Potential exposure to open fire/flames/sparks.
  • Constant exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases.
  • Work surface is stable, height is elevated.
