Engineering a world of possibilities
The Beck Venture Center has quickly become a major node for innovation and startups in Colorado. Part of the Colorado School of Mines campus, we have over 31,000 square feet of coworking, event, and innovation space and have incubated over 60 companies, so far, that have raised over $30MM in funding. And we are just getting started!
In this role of Event Manager, this is an on-site role where you will be a key member of the team at Beck and in charge of everything related to events and our amazing event spaces. From planning and executing our own events, to working with strategic partners to produce some of the most impactful events in the state, to providing best-in-class hospitality to our guests, to leading a team of house managers and students, you will have one of the most important jobs on the team.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage all use of our event spaces, including the Janzen Family Pitch Deck.
  • Startup Forum: Plan and produce our signature Startup Forum event series where we have over 100 entrepreneurs, investors, and startup community members as guests here at the Beck Venture Center roughly every other week.
  • Other Beck Events: Plan and produce other events sponsored by the Beck Venture Center including the E&I Alumni Showcase and other partner events.
  • Partner Events: Work with renowned partners like National Labs, Venture Capitalists, and all levels of government to produce some of the best events in the state.
  • Venue Management: Manage all external inquiries for events at Beck. This includes providing quotes, negotiating contracts, facilitating payment completion, and staffing House Managers to manage external events.
  • Logistics Management: Oversee all aspects of event logistics, including catering, audio-visual equipment, event materials, acquiring approval and ensuring compliance with alcohol policies and procedures, and other necessary arrangements. Ensure timely and accurate setup, breakdown, and resetting of event spaces.
  • Client Engagement: Collaborate with coworking space members and external stakeholders to gather event requirements, understand their preferences, and ensure events align with their expectations and goals.
  • Budgeting and Cost Control: Develop event budgets, negotiate with vendors, and manage expenses effectively to ensure events are delivered within budgetary constraints.
  • Promotion and Marketing: Promote upcoming events through various channels, including social media, email campaigns, and community forums, to maximize attendance and engagement.
  • Event Success Evaluation: Collect feedback from attendees and stakeholders after each event to assess the event's success, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven decisions for future event planning.
  • Partnership Development: Build and maintain relationships with external partners, speakers, and local businesses to enhance the value and scope of events and attract potential event sponsors.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Partner with Mines Facilities to ensure all events comply with Mines health and safety regulations, including crowd management and emergency procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, hospitality, communication, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in event planning and management, community management, customer service, or a related role preferably within the coworking, hospitality, or event industry.
  • Proficient in using communication and collaboration tools, as well as social media platforms.
  • Proficiency in event management software and tools to streamline planning and coordination processes.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as events may occur outside regular business hours.
