Overview

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and knowledgeable Construction Litigation Lawyer to join our team. The ideal candidate will advise the General Counsel in regard to construction litigation and claims. Expertise in negotiating and drafting construction contracts is essential, as the candidate will advise on contract formats, indemnity, insurance, project closure, and warranties. Precision in ensuring comprehensive and protective construction contracts is crucial.

Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities

    Legal Advisory: Advise the General Counsel as to controlling laws and case decisions to provide accurate legal advice.
  • Litigation: Examine legal data and determine the advisability of defending or prosecuting lawsuits on behalf of the corporation.
  • Construction Contracts: Negotiate and draft construction contracts, providing comprehensive advice on construction delivery formats, indemnity requirements, insurance requirements, project close-out, and warranty provisions.
  • Dispute Resolution: Manage dispute resolutions, claims of liens and bonds, and handle construction liens with expertise.


Qualifications

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in Michigan.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience with a focus on construction and litigation.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts and related legal issues.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work effectively under pressure.

Ideally, you'll also have

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills for coordinating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Experience in advising on mediation strategies, particularly related to claims.
  • Ability to file claims with subcontractors for delays.
  • Skill in fostering a positive culture and promoting effective communication within the team.
  • Competence in performing administrative tasks and managing correspondence in challenging situations.
