Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB is seeking a full or part-time Health & Safety Intern for employment during the Summer of 2025 for work on projects and in our offices. This is an internal and external support position.

This position can be located in any of our New England or Northeast offices.

This internship offers the opportunity to work closely with experienced Health and Safety professionals, gaining practical experience in a real-world environment. Interns will make valuable connections within the H&S field, interact with clients and learn from a team of experts. The position will expose the participant to regulations and best practices, as well as provide hands on experience in documentation, training and communication. VHB interns can contribute to the team and help ensure the health and safety of our employees.

Responsibilities

    Aid implementation of best practices and ensure compliance with applicable local, state, federal and company regulations, policies, permits, and work practices for clients and the corporate program
  • Assist the H&S Team with supervised on-site health and safety compliance support at client facilities
  • Assist the H&S Team in implementing safety and health initiatives and contribute to the preparation of required written documentation.
  • Play an active role in organizing safety training sessions for employees and educate them about potential workplace hazards.
  • Purchase appropriate personal protective equipment and footwear
  • Promote incident reporting and contribute to the development of "Lessons Learned"
  • Develop the ability to visit project sites, clients, and offices to maintain a visible presence in EHS matters.

Skills and Attributes

  • Proficient in verbal and written communication, with a strong ability to connect with others on a personal and professional level.
  • Strong presentation skills delivering training to both in-person and online audiences
  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with MS Teams is a valuable asset.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Good organizational and personal time management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment
  • Can interact effectively with people individually and in small groups
  • Team oriented with strong capability to work independently
  • Demonstrate an aptitude for comprehending and following both verbal and written instructions.
  • Exhibit a genuine and empathetic concern for the well-being and needs of employees.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, Industrial Hygiene or a related field
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • Interest in the engineering industry
  • Valid driver's license
Physical Requirements
  • Physically able to conduct field work including hiking, standing for prolonged periods of time, and/or carrying equipment
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds at a time

Our best estimate of the hourly salary range for this position located in New York is $19 to $28 per hour. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
