GENERAL FUNCTION:

The Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) Chief Investment Officer (CIO) is responsible for leading the firm's investment process reporting directly to the President. This is a key leadership position for a fast growing multi-billion-dollar RIA with responsibility for the organizations investment results including discretionary investment activities. This role defines and articulates firm's investment philosophy and approach and is responsible for overseeing Investment Policies, Approved lists, Investment Platform (in conjunction with IT/Ops) and maintains system wide oversight for advisor teams. This role also requires a high level of collaboration and has end to end accountabilities for all functions and third parties that provide services or support to this business. The CIO is responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. The CIO will play a critical role in driving the firm's investment performance and aligning investment strategies with the overall objectives of the firm.

Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the firm's and Bank's risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for setting and executing overall investment policy and strategies for the firm; Oversees and directs all areas of investment risk management. Responsible for the management of key investment activities, risk management, and performance through regular reports on the strategic direction of the program, progress toward strategic initiatives, investment performance, risk management and compliance with policy and guidelines.

  • Works with firm leadership and core team to develop business strategies, policies and procedures.

  • Leads, manages and coaches a team of investment professionals, providing strategic direction and ensuring alignment with organizational objectives while promoting professional growth within the team.

  • Maintain a high level of external visibility representing the firm by authoring and appearing in print, TV, media and conferences.

  • Develop and implement an investment strategy that aligns with the firm's goals and objectives.

  • Provide leadership, supervise and coordinate the strategic asset allocation, portfolio construction and security selection processes.

  • Oversees and directs all areas of the firm's investment risk management.

  • Partner closely with Fifth Third National Bank CIO and other members of Investment Management Group (IMG), as needed.

  • Guide and direct the monitoring and due diligence for current and potential managers within including manager updates/calls, performance attribution and in-depth qualitative and quantitative analysis.

  • Select, manage, and monitor the performance of the investment portfolio.

  • Oversee and report on advisor team adherence to client investment policy statements.

  • Research, analyze and assess market trends, economic conditions, and other factors impacting the portfolio's performance.

  • Provide regular reports and updates to President on investment portfolio's performance.

  • Stay informed on the latest investment products and strategies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for providing employees timely, candid and constructive performance feedback, developing employees to their fullest potential and providing challenging opportunities that enhance employee career growth, developing the appropriate talent pool to ensure adequate bench strength and succession planning, and recognizing and rewarding employees for accomplishments.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field. An advanced degree (MBA or Master's in Finance) is preferred.

  • CFA or other relevant designations preferred.

  • 15+ years of experience in investment management and money management, with significant time spent in a leadership role.

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a Registered Investment Advisory firm required

  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills, with strong ability to influence and inspire.

  • Exceptional executive presence, business acumen and presentation skills; Excellent verbal, written, presentation, facilitation, people, and diplomacy skills.

  • Innovative thinker who challenges the status quo and drives change throughout the organization, including ability to effectively influence key stakeholders and remove barriers to achieve preferred outcomes.

  • Leadership skills including initiative, strategic vision, detail orientation, strong analytical and decision-making skills; Demonstrated commitment to teamwork, desire to be part of a team culture, and initiative to address issues proactively.

  • Deep understanding of various investment products (stocks, bonds, real estate, private equity, hedge funds, etc.).

  • Deep understanding of the regulatory and compliance requirements within the investment management industry.

  • Ability to adapt to changing market conditions and pivot strategies as needed.

  • Ability to develop and implement long-term investment strategies.

  • Expertise in identifying and mitigating investment risks.

  • Strong client engagement and business development experience.

  • Ability to stay ahead of market trends and introduce innovative investment solutions.

  • Travel required as needed.
