JOB TITLE: Lead System Engineer - Linux

REQUISITION ID: INF00CQ

DEPARTMENT: CIP Infrastructure - 801 Charlotte

LOCATION: Kansas City, MO

PAY RANGE:

Senior System Engineer: $81,800 - $109,100

Lead System Engineer: $96,300 - $128,400

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Additional hours as required). This role will be a combination of remote and in office work, with the ability to attend meetings on-site as appropriate. With exceptions, candidates who are performing work remotely must live in Kansas or Missouri.

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

This position assumes a lead role in the deployment, design, installation, configuration, and maintenance of infrastructure applications and network hardware pertaining to the Linux operating system.

* Leads the installation, upgrade, and configuration of infrastructure applications.

* Monitors and tests infrastructure applications in an effort to predict potential points of failure, recommending solutions when identified.

* Develops and maintains infrastructure applications and system configuration documentation.

* Provides technical support and guidance (Level 2 and 3) for systems-related issues. Uses knowledge and experience to resolve problems. Ensures timely resolution of problems.

* Provides technical leadership for the CIP Infrastructure team, including:

o Identifies appropriate approaches to departmental goals

o Support NERC/CIP compliance program within Evergy and IT standards and policies (for example backup and recovery procedures, data security, etc.). Ensures timely resolution to problems. Recommends and plans for system upgrades and improvements.

o Coaches system engineers who have less experience and expertise.
Education and Experience Requirements:

* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or other related field and 6-8 years of systems administration experience

OR

8-10 years of systems administration experience

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:

* Strong communication skills.

* Understands and considers standard concepts, best practices and procedures related to Unix/Linux system administration.

* Understanding of Linux OS clustering technologies, and highly available architectures.

* Working knowledge of OpenShift or Kubernetes clusters.

* Knowledge of physical or virtual networking, security, and load balancing technology.

* Knowledge of protocols such as TCP/IP, FTP, HTTP, DNS, and LDAP.

* Demonstrated expertise managing, deploying, maintaining, and upgrading Splunk.

* Knowledge and experience with certificate-based security architecture and methodologies.

* Working knowledge of business goals, corporate IT standards, strategy, and service level agreements.

* Communicates effectively with all levels of employees, both technical and non-technical. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

* Establishes cooperative relationships with other departments.

* Searches for and identifies alternative and/or innovative solutions to technical problems.

* Research and resolve reported systems hardware/software problems efficiently and accurately while adhering to internal compliance/management standards and procedures.

* Uses planning skills to manage and complete projects on time and on budget.

* Exercises sound judgment when making decisions.

* A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

* Quickly adapts to multiple demands and rapidly changing priorities.

* Familiar with concepts, practices, and procedures within several core fields, i.e. server hardware, storage, operating systems, virtualization, backup strategy, Active Directory, RSA, etc.

* Has the ability to lead and direct the work of others as necessary
