Your Role as Advising Specialist - College Success

The College Success Advising Specialist will be responsible for delivering excellent student support via virtual methods as well as in-person, ensuring each student and partner interaction receives the highest quality of customer service.

As a Student Success Specialist - Office Based, You Will:



  • Guide and educate college students at universities and colleges across the country in support of their academic, personal, and professional development and success.
  • Collaborate with institution staff, faculty and administration on student success and persistence.
  • Promote and help develop student campus connections, involvement, academic success strategies, experiential learning including internships, financial management, and other high impact activities to support student persistence.
  • Advocate for students, collaborating and communicating with institution staff, faculty, and administration and College Possible team members.



Primary Responsibilities

Direct Student Support - 65%.



  • Connect with and educate students on topics and campus resources of relevance to them including:

    • Academic success and time management strategies
    • Financial management and resources including Federal aid, scholarships, and other funding opportunities
    • Major and career exploration including shadowing, informational interviewing, research, internships, and other experiential opportunities
    • Social and personal development including adapting to campus/college experience


  • Guide students through obstacles encountered using campus connections and resources while teaching them self-advocacy, resourcefulness, problem solving, and communication skills.
  • Build a career mindset in students, encouraging career exploration, experiential learning, and networking.
  • Provide ongoing communication and availability to all students in a caseload of 200-250 students.
  • Promote campus activities and events as appropriate to student interests and needs.
  • Collaborate with College Possible Omaha Access Team on panels, tabling, and other activities to connect high school students with institutions and the College Possible Student Success Specialist services, support, and resources.
  • Establish strong relationships with key campus partners and resource providers.
  • Meet with students going into their first year, introducing them to College Possible and institution/college resources and opportunities for academic, personal, and social development.
  • Recognize student achievements and share with appropriate campus partners and College Possible Omaha communications team members.
  • Refer students to specific, appropriate campus and community resources as needed.
  • Work from College Possible office assigned.



Data Management and Reporting - 15%



  • Track and record student progress, using both quantitative and qualitative measures.
  • Enter and maintain current student data in CoPilot, a Salesforce based CRM.
  • Utilize existing and/or create and run reports to identify and respond to individual students in need of additional support and to identify and respond to trends in student progress.
  • Generate annual, monthly and as needed reports to measure progress for director, development, donors and campus partners.



Program Development and Support - 15%



  • Utilize caseload management strategies including technologies, collaborations, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director to identify and develop Success Program initiatives and growth.
  • Meet regularly with Program Director and full College Possible Program Teams to help develop and/or support organizational initiatives.
  • Provide Program Director support as needed and/or assigned.



Organizational Support - 5%



  • Collaborate and/or participate in events and activities, providing logistics support as needed and connecting with guests, supporters, board members, and other potential or current partners and/or students
  • Represent and promote College Possible positively to increase and enhance organizational awareness throughout the community.
  • Provide support and complete other duties as assigned.



As a Student Success Specialist - Office Based,

You Will Need:

Education



  • Bachelor's degree in education, social or human sciences, business, or other related field(s) required



Experience



  • 1-3 years teaching, mentoring, advising, and/or coaching college students, or related roles demonstrating a commitment to the power of education.
  • Development of effective, targeted text, email, and in-person college student communications.
  • Collaboration and partnership building which demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving and adaptation to changing situations and environments.
  • Finding, reading, comprehending, utilizing, and presenting information in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Written and in-person communications with professional teams.
  • Presentations to small and large groups, showing effective speaking, engagement, and influencing skills.



Computer/Software Skills



  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams, as well as in Google, Google Drive and Docs
  • Experience with CRM systems preferred.



Other



  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds as needed
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for a minimum of 8 hours a day
  • Mobility to move across campuses and/or travel to College Possible site as needed
