Additional Skill Level, Experience or Other Requirements Job Title: Desktop Engineer Location: SUNY Old Westbury Department: Information Technology Services (ITS) Reports To: Enterprise Infrastructure Services Manager Position Type: Full-Time consultant (Occasional evening and weekend hours required) Contract duration: 3 year contract Hours: TBD Position Overview: SUNY Old Westbury is seeking a skilled and service-oriented Desktop Engineer to join the Information Technology Services (ITS) department. This role focuses on supporting a range of desktop, voice, and AV technologies essential to campus operations. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills, effective communication, and a commitment to responsive, high-quality service. Candidate should have 3 to 5 years experience and working knowledge of the following: Key Responsibilities: o Provide technical support to campus users by diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and peripheral issues. o Install and support computers, mobile devices, printers, and lab equipment across academic and administrative environments. o Maintain and support enterprise communication systems including: o Alcatel-Client VOIP and OmniVista 8770 o OpenTouch Voicemail o Redbox voice recording (VOIP, radio, analog) o Microsoft Teams Voice (deployment and management) o Manage and deploy devices using KACE and JAMF endpoint management platforms. o Process and resolve service tickets using TeamDynamix. o Provide support for LogMeIn Rescue remote access tools. o Troubleshoot and support AV systems including Crestron and assist with basic audio production. o Manage campus printing solutions through PaperCut. o Maintain IT equipment inventory, service records, and system/network access control for supported environments. o Collaborate with vendors and technical support teams for issue resolution. o Assist in supervising student workers within the service desk function. o Deliver executive-level white glove IT support as needed. Required Qualifications: o Proven experience in desktop engineering, technical support, or IT operations-preferably in a higher education or enterprise environment. o Strong working knowledge of voice communication systems, AV technologies, and desktop hardware/software. o Experience with enterprise IT tools including KACE, JAMF, TeamDynamix, and LogMeIn Rescue o Familiarity with Crestron systems and campus AV environments. o Excellent communication, documentation, and customer service skills. o Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with diverse campus constituents. o Must live within 15-20 miles of SUNY Old Westbury to ensure rapid response and on-site support availability. o White glove executive support experience is a strong plus. o Occasional evening and weekend hours required |
