HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Office of Student Success is seeking to hire an Assistant Director to help to lead the University Advisement Center Perimeter College Online team. Successful candidates for the position of Assistant Director will be forward-thinking, solution-oriented individuals who are willing to find innovative ways to continue to improve some of the fastest growing graduation rates in the nation. The selected candidates will perform supervisory duties (hire, train, evaluate) as well as be responsible for serving a student population for an academic college or advisement unit.

Essential Job Functions:



  • Perform supervisory duties such as hire and evaluate staff, as well as training them based on university policies and procedures, technological systems such as, but not limited to the Education Advisory Board system and Degree Works, and policies and procedures related to academic advisement.
  • Work with department chairs and other college/unit to ensure that best practices are in place to support student success through graduation and/or transition to four-year level.
  • Advises prospective and current students about academic requirements and selection of courses. Work with colleges to make sure advisors have the current information regarding academic programs and college/unit requirements.
  • Evaluates and maintains student records for degree requirements using academic evaluation system. Monitor's student registration activities and academic performance/progress.
  • Serve as a liaison to other campus advising units in order to effectively implement advisement plans and to coordinate University advisement. Work with these units and other campus wide committees to develop and track metrics regarding student advisement outcomes.
  • Review student petitions - to include researching problem and writing any correspondence that needs to go back to the student.
  • Actively participate in New Student Orientation for the Online students and other campuses at GSU Perimeter College/
  • Actively plan and participate in New Advisor Training for the University Advisement Center.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and three years of supervisory/management experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

Preference may be given to those who possess a Master's degree and 5 years' experience working with student retention or student affairs programs; previous experience as a lead worker or mentor to junior staff; experience leading academic and retention processes/projects; experience using data to improve student retention efforts; excellent oral and written communication skills; experience following up on problems until resolution. Proficiency with Excel, Banner and student tracking applications such as EAB Campus, Degree Works or similar product.
