The State Highway Administration's (SHA) Office of Transportation Mobility & Operations (Anne Arundel County) is currently recruiting for a Highway Operations Technician IV position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification.
Nature of Work: This is the area supervisor level of emergency highway operations work for SHA - Coordinated Highways Action Response Team (CHART). This position is responsible for directly overseeing a team of Emergency Response Technicians and Emergency Traffic Patrol (ETP's) units. This position will also have shared supervision of Highway Operation Technician's at an assigned regional operations center to include the assurance all work meets standard operating procedures. The Highway Operations Technician IV is responsible for supervision, guidance, training and coaching of subordinates/employees and provides thorough knowledge, training, supervision and response regarding traffic management while following established standard operational procedures. This position also establishes and fosters communications between response personnel, state and local emergency agencies, office of communications, media, and other traffic management agencies.

Candidate must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in state of Maryland.
The selected candidate must obtain and maintain the following certifications, courses, and trainings during the probationary period:
Vehicle Recovery Certification
CPR and First Responder's Certification
National Incident Management System Certification at the 100 and 700 levels
Defense Driving
Work Zone Safety Training
Blood Borne Passages and Hazmat Training
CHART/Authority Operations Center (AOC) - awareness training on HOT duties
Tow Master Class
Communication Equipment Training
HAZMAT Class
Snow College
CHART Certified as ERT I
Supervisor Training Program/Management Development Program
Special Requirements:
Employees in this classification may be considered "Essential Employees" and may be required to sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to "Essential Employee" status.
An offer of employment shall be conditional on the result of a medical examination by the agency physician in order to determine the candidate's ability to perform essential job related tasks.
Candidates will be subject to pre-employment drug testing in accordance with Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
Employees in this classification are considered "Safety Sensitive" employees and are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
