Position Description:
Trusted advisor and subject matter expert providing guidance, support, and recommendations focusing on employee relations matters for Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona (GCNA) and its affiliated entities. Minimizes risk and negative exposure while increasing productivity and retention by ensuring efficient and timely resolution of all employee relations complaints and investigations, and team member conflict resolution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reduces risk and ensures compliance with all Federal, State and local regulations relating to employment such as Fair Labor Standards Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC).
  • Manages unemployment claims and represents the company during appeal hearings.
  • Proactively reviews analytics regarding employee relations (ER) matters; recommends appropriate intervention and/or corrective action such as training opportunities, and develops and executes proactive training and tools to support business strategy.
  • Collaborates with other ER Partners, and Director of Talent Management regarding annual policy and employee handbook updates.
  • Partners with the Legal Department in response to agency requests, investigations, and employment litigation matters.
  • Conducts Employee Relations investigations within required timeframes to include gathering and analyzing facts, and applying relevant policies and past practice. Provides recommendation(s) to the HR Business Partner and leadership at the conclusion of an investigation.
  • Interprets and applies understanding of corporate policies and practices, employment law, and other regulations to provide advice, guidance, or clarification for ER inquiries.
  • Collaborates with leadership in problem solving, in pursuit of organization and team goals.
  • Builds relationships across the organization to ensure trust, confidence and credibility remain intact.
  • Researches, manages, and resolves complex situations as they arise, related to ER issues; conducts effective and objective investigations.
  • Maintains required documentation, including intake and investigative notes, supporting documents and final investigation reports.
  • Makes effective use of case management software to ensure all case-related metrics and documentation are appropriately captured and retained; uses case management software to analyze trends and make recommendations where applicable.
  • Serves as HR Ambassador by managing multiple HR initiatives designed to ensure a positive, productive, and fast-paced work environment.
  • Conducts trainings related to policies and procedures, and employment law.
  • Stays abreast of employment law updates.
  • Frequently travels to company locations as needed for effective completion of investigations.

  • Maintains regular and consistent in-person attendance.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or equivalent experience.
  • Two or more years of employee relations experience preferably within a services or retail environment.
  • California law and investigation experience is preferred, or related retail ER experience.
  • Customer-focused orientation with strong communication skills and the ability to function as an effective and respected partner to internal clients.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the proven ability to drive communication across a broader group.
  • Ability to speak and read English proficiently.
  • Proven ability to be analytical and handle confidential and sensitive data effectively.
  • Attention to detail and well organized; project management skills a plus.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks while still delivering high quality results in a fast-paced environment, working well under pressure.
  • Strong MS Office skills.
  • Valid drivers' license and clean MVR.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen, where applicable for position.
