Description

The Center for Technology and Behavioral Health (CTBH) at Dartmouth College invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow to lead technical research and development efforts for an innovative AI-driven mental health platform at Dartmouth College. The project combines advanced artificial intelligence with passive behavioral sensing. This position will conduct cutting-edge research at the intersection of mobile sensing, real-time data processing, and artificial intelligence while contributing to the development of novel digital health interventions. The role offers an opportunity to advance the field of technology-enabled mental health care through innovative research in passive sensing integration, system optimization, and scalable technology development.

This position is full-time, non-remote, in-residence at Dartmouth in Hanover, NH, with start date as early as July 1, 2025. Initial appointment is typically for one or two years, with possibility of renewal. The postdoctoral researcher will be primarily advised and hosted in the Department of Computer Science. They are also supported by theGuarini School for Graduate and Advanced Studies, including theirdiversity and inclusion initiatives.

Key Accountabilities:

Technical Research and Development (40%)



  • Lead research initiatives in passive sensing data collection and processing
  • Develop novel algorithms for real-time processing of mobile sensor data
  • Design and implement secure data pipelines for behavioral sensing
  • Conduct research on system optimization and scalability
  • Create innovative solutions for battery-efficient continuous sensing
  • Develop new methods for integrating multimodal sensor data
  • Publish research findings in top-tier computer science conferences and journals
  • Present research at academic conferences and professional meetings
  • Contribute to grant proposals and research funding applications


System Integration and Architecture (30%)



  • Oversee technical integration of passive sensing components
  • Design system architecture for real-time data processing
  • Collaborate with mobile and backend developers on implementation
  • Develop protocols for secure data transmission and storage
  • Create specifications for system components and interfaces
  • Implement quality assurance processes for data collection
  • Optimize system performance and reliability
  • Document technical specifications and system architecture
  • Ensure compliance with security and privacy requirements


Research Collaboration and Leadership (20%)



  • Mentor graduate students and research assistants
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary research team members
  • Coordinate with clinical researchers on intervention development
  • Participate in research team meetings and planning sessions
  • Contribute to research protocol development
  • Support grant writing and publication efforts
  • Present research findings to stakeholders
  • Assist in supervising technical aspects of research studies


Innovation and Knowledge Translation (10%)



  • Identify opportunities for technical innovation
  • Develop proof-of-concept implementations
  • Create technical documentation and research protocols
  • Contribute to intellectual property development
  • Support technology transfer initiatives
  • Assist in preparing research findings for publication
  • Participate in academic-industry partnerships
  • Share technical expertise with research team


Qualifications

Required qualifications:



  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related field
  • Strong programming skills in relevant languages (Python, Java, etc.)
  • Experience with mobile sensing and data collection systems
  • Knowledge of machine learning and data processing techniques
  • Publication record in relevant technical fields
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in teams
  • Experience with research project management


Additional priorities:



  • Experience with digital health applications
  • Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and privacy regulations
  • Background in real-time systems and data processing
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms
  • Experience with large-scale system deployment
  • Knowledge of battery optimization techniques
  • Publication record in top-tier venues
  • Experience with research grant writing
