What You Will Do:
Ensures that all pipeline and associated facilities are designed in accordance with all applicable regulations, industry codes and corporate standards. Provides leadership to direct reports to define and manage scope, technical requirements, scheduling, cost control, and forecasting for the engineering work for pipeline related projects. Assigns project engineering staff to support projects with a focus on Major Projects and works with and/or assigns staff to support Project Development to develop scope and preliminary designs. Works with staff to review and approve engineering, geotechnical investigations, survey and materials proposals, prepare technical evaluations, and recommend to the Pipeline Engineering Manager and Project Manager selections based on technical merit along with cost and schedule. Participates in design review meetings with Project Engineers, third party engineering firms, Project Manager, Operations, Integrity and Construction personnel to discuss the scope, design and expected performance as well as resolve unforeseen problems. Is responsible for the Project Engineer's review and selection of optimum routes, sites, or locations for proposed facilities based upon function, cost, quality, safety, environmental concerns, Operations' needs, construction requirements, permitting requirements, and other considerations. Reviews lessons learned from past projects and makes recommendations into future designs, specifications, standards and design guidelines where appropriate. Responsible for the performance management and career development of staff including, coaching, mentoring, and motivating staff in the fulfillment of responsibilities. Evaluates performance of all assigned internal resources, consultants, and engineering contractors as required to ensure the quality, cost effectiveness, and timeliness of work associated with their assigned responsibilities. Participates on internal and external technical committees, e.g., industry task forces, partner working groups Provides support and assistance to peers and more senior staff in order to facilitate business initiatives and legal compliance, e.g., Engineering Projects, Law, Health, Safety and Environment, Operations, etc.
Who You Are:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering majoring in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical or other related Engineering field; with P.Eng designation. Minimum 7 years of pipeline industry experience required. Aptitude and communications skills related to leading and acting independently as a supervisory engineer. Must have demonstrated excellent human relations, influencing, and listening skills to deal effectively with all levels of employees and management. Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with other departments to achieve goals. Understanding of gas and/or oil pipeline operations and of energy markets Demonstrated ability to proactively and effectively solve problems by using analytical skills to take corrective action before they become crises. Demonstrated proficiency working with office computer applications such as Microsoft Office. Demonstrated ability to effectively organize and prioritize work in a timely manner; capable of multi-tasking numerous projects at once and working under tight deadlines and the knowledge/experience to mentor junior staff. Experience with FERC filing process (Pre-File, 7(c), prior notice, and/or blanket certificates & permits). Working knowledge of industry codes (ASME B31.8, 49CFR192 (DOT Code), ASME BPVC Sect. VIII, CSAZ 662). Familiarity and knowledge of materials standards & specifications (ANSI Ratings, ASME, API, MSS, etc.). Experience working with geotechnical and hydrotechnical hazards.
Preferred:
Professional designations relevant to project management or industry (CAPM, PMP, MBA, CWI, NACE, etc.) is a plus. Professional Engineer (P.E.) designation in the US. Horizontal Directional Drill Design (HDD), road bores, and applicable load/stress calculations experience. Working knowledge of filing process in Canada. (CER 214) is a plus.

Physical Requirements (Include but are not limited to):
Grasping, kneeling, light - moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.
