Responsible for all aspects of Plant Operation and Maintenance in conjunction with Owners and Owners commercial representatives for the efficient dispatch of the units. Responsible for maintaining a competent, well-trained staff. Responsible for training, plant safety, environmental compliance, policy administration and has purchasing authority for required materials and services. Maintain good relationships with customers and the community. Responsible for supporting and executing the NRG Conduct of Operations and Operations Model

Essential Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a safe and environmentally compliant workplace
  • Ensures compliance to the NERC Reliability Standards
  • Promotes productivity and teamwork with open communication, timely decision making, and use of leadership skills to set high standards of performance, while providing the direction necessary to achieve performance
  • Promotes and supports the development of technical leadership and business skills of employees to carry out responsibilities in a competitive environment
  • Provides regular feedback to employees on their performance to allow them to capitalize on their strengths and focus on opportunities for improvement
  • Creates and supports an organizational culture that encourages and rewards employee involvement, innovative thinking, adaptation to change, responsible risk-taking, customer focus, and continuous improvement
  • Formulates appropriate strategies which support Owner and NRG strategies and manages the development, implementation, and execution of assigned area goals, objectives, and initiatives
  • Manages all business aspects of assigned area to maximize the competitive position of the plant including operational performance, staff development, and cost management
  • Supports and emphasizes the importance of safety and environmental programs and ensures regulatory compliance
  • Reviews organizational performance with constituents and addresses opportunities for improvementon a regular basis
  • Manages, as necessary, the evaluation and selection of external service providers.
  • Manageswork performed by external service providers in support of organizational objectives and responsibilities
  • Assigns work and holds employees accountable for their performance
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with organizations external to the plant
  • Ensures that appropriate technical expertise related to the assigned area of responsibility is available and provided to constituents in a timely manner.
  • Manages development and execution of appropriate standards, guidelines, programs, and procedures within assigned area of responsibility
  • Uses and maintains technical and professional knowledge, shares that knowledge with others, and recognizes/applies new technology in a cost-effective manner
  • Obtains and applies knowledge of competitive business practices in daily work activities and decision making
  • Seeks and understands the organizational needs and focuses on meeting and exceeding these requirements

Working Conditions:

  • Normal office environment and/or power plant environment.
  • Requires operation of a motor vehicle
  • Work overtime and non-standard working hours as required
  • Requires occasional travel outside service area
  • Occasionally requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, gloves, ear plugs, etc.)
  • May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals
  • Requires operation of a personal computer

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of Bachelors' degree in Engineering or related technicaldiscipline, and 10 years of equivalent experience in a related technicalfield; or a minimum of 14 years' experience in a related technicalfield
  • Demonstrated record of successfully leading/supervising employees in a related field
  • Knowledge of Human Resources, Labor and Employee Relations
  • Valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years' experience with combustion turbines with heat recovery steam generators (HRSG)
  • Experience with start-up and shutdown of equipment to meet business requirements.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities
  • Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment

Please Note: Salary offered will be commensurate with the successful candidate's education and/or experience and consistent with the job location's market pay rate.
