Position Description

- Contribute to, and be a leader within, a team working on the design, development and improvement of human identification (HID) assays based on Next-Generation Sequencing.

- Coordinate with other team members to enable accurate and timely planning and execution of studies.

- Execute feasibility and troubleshooting studies as required.

- Record and analyze experimental data and results, verify data integrity and accuracy, and report findings to the team.

- Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and provide input to technical reports covering data.

- Propose novel strategies and technologies and independently apply basic scientific principles to solve problems.

- Perform literature searches and have a broad knowledge and deep understanding of literature in forensic science, particularly human identification.

- Review method development data, verification/validation reports, and bioanalytical reports.

- Thoroughly analyze results and methods, solve analytical problems, and troubleshoot assays.

- Provide update of project status at weekly project review meetings.

- Strictly adhere to timelines and drive deliverables of tasks from all stakeholders.


Position Requirements

- PhD in Molecular Biology or closely related discipline plus 2 years of experience in a forensic science-related discipline, or a master's degree in Molecular Biology or closely related discipline plus 5 years of experience in a forensic science-related discipline.

- Solid knowledge of SWGDAM guidelines pertaining to forensic analysis of DNA.

- Familiarity with common forensic sample types and collection devices.

- Basic understanding of assay development.

- Next-Generation Sequencing library preparation experience is desirable.

- Experience with laboratory automation equipment is desirable.

- On-site full-time Monday through Friday in Frederick, MD.
