Job Description:

Summary

Reporting to the President, PMA Management Corp, the Senior VP, Chief Claims Officer will have responsibility for managing the performance and productivity of PMA's TPA workers compensation and casualty claims operation. The role ensures appropriate claim outcomes through consistent execution of claims management best practices, compliance with regulatory requirements, and achievement of department and corporate objectives.

Responsibilities




  • Provide leadership and guidance for field claim Set an example in effectively supervising, coaching, evaluating, developing, and motivating staff.
  • Execute claims management strategy for workers compensation and casualty claims; create annual operational goals and objectives for claim handling operation.
  • Implement and monitor claim policies, procedures and practices in accordance with company and client claim handling requirements to achieve appropriate claim outcomes and quality standards.
  • Ensure that staff meets prescribed customer service standards.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Ongoing monitoring and analysis of claims trends and results, implementing corrective actions as needed. Maintain appropriate staffing levels in conjunction with workloads and service revenues.
  • Creates a work environment conducive to employee engagement and retention.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement short and long range policy guidelines based on client needs, market conditions, and company objectives.
  • Work closely with colleagues in other departments, including but not limited to TPA Sales, Client Account Management and Business Solutions, Managed Care and Risk Control, on initiatives designed to drive positive results, effectiveness, and profitability.
  • Ensures effective oversight of claims unbundled by over 40 carrier partners.
  • Effectively communicate changes, feedback, and Promotes effective communication among and between work groups and between management and employees.
  • Employ performance management and review processes to maximize staff performance, correct performance deficiencies, provide development opportunities and promote effective communication with employees.
  • Monitors and analyzes significant legal developments and legislative changes. Communicates conclusions and recommendations to staff and other stakeholders.
  • Identifies technical education and leadership development Establishes and implements strategies to deliver and or coordinate the delivery of training.
  • Develops and manages the overall operating budget for the claim operations ensuring that all financial goals are being met.
  • Participates in new business, renewal, broker, and stewardship presentations on an as needed basis.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, and apply knowledge of compliance policies, procedures, standards and laws applicable to the responsibilities of this position. Maintain a strong compliance and quality assurance culture.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree plus 15+ years of multi-jurisdiction, multi-line commercial claims experience, with recent emphasis on workers compensation, and 5+ years in a corporate home office executive claims leadership An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Professional designations desired (CPCU, ARM, AIC,etc).
  • Expert knowledge of Third-Party Administration and Commercial Property and Casualty, specifically workers' compensation, claim administration, and litigation management.
  • Prior claims leadership experience at a national or large regional regional TPA.
  • Experience with high exposure and complex workers compensation and casualty claims.
  • Previous client service management experience with a proven record of superior customer service, client retention, and successful claims outcomes.
  • Demonstrable track record in influencing and executing strategy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively interact with executives and clients.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and work independently and as a team.
  • Prior project leadership experience is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Some travel is required.

Location

The location of the candidate is flexible with the Mid-Atlantic region preferred. Although the position may entail occasional travel, responsibilities generally require physical presence in the office with ability to work a hybrid schedule.
