Position Summary

Cook is responsible to the Corps Officer for the preparation and cooking of food items for assigned meals and for corps functions/events; accountable for maintaining a clean, orderly, stocking kitchen and pantry, and for training additional personnel as assigned. Must be able to read, write and communicate well in English. Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred. Must maintain current Food Handlers Certificate.

Essential Functions

Plan and prepare daily meals and handle other meal preparations as directed. Ensure nutritious preparation and attractive presentation of all meals. In consultation with supervisor, maintain adequate kitchen inventory, including food and supplies. Store all fresh food properly and timely; maintain walk-in refrigerator in clean, orderly fashion, and ensure food processed timely in first-in/first-out manner. Ensure maximum sanitation maintained in preparation of all foods, in case and proper cleaning of all equipment, and in personal hygiene. Observe all safety rules and regulations. Oversee and train personnel and/or volunteers as assigned. Report emergencies, accidents, and equipment breakdowns to supervisor immediately. Participate in staff meetings as requested. Must be in good physical health and mental health, capable of meeting the program demands. Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis. Ability to environmental exposures to cold, heat, and water. Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to be able to lift to 40 lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinets drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of safety, cleanliness, and safe food-handling measures. Familiarity with standard kitchen equipment and pre-kitchen procedures. Ability to take directions and work efficiently and effectively in a team environment. Ability to follow established policies and procedures, including appropriate payroll processes.
