In the role of Senior Traffic Engineer, primary responsibilities include acting as a Task/Project engineer supervised by the program manager directing the development and implementation of traffic control plans and maintenance of traffic during a design-build project including :



  • Work as part of a traffic team under the direction of the Program Manager on a variety of traffic control design and analysis efforts for a variety of construction elements and phases of the transportation project.
  • Conduct operational traffic analysis using a variety of modeling tools, ranging from highway capacity software to complex micro simulation models; analyze everything from isolated intersections and urban arterials and highway segments under stage construction conditions.
  • Focus on traffic control design, including accident prevention and mitigation strategies, temporary signing, striping, traffic signals, lighting, and Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS) during various phases of construction.
  • Perform other duties as needed per direction of the program manager and LAWA staff #LI-JF1

Preferred Qualifications


  • MSCE
  • Diverse experience in related fields such as toll roads, roadway design, or construction is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in civil/Transportation Engineering.
  • PE/TE/RSP1 certificate or ability to obtain certification.
  • Specific experience in development of construction staging, traffic control plans and maintenance of traffic elements consistent with MUTCD, WATCH and City of LADOT standards.
  • Knowledge of staging of large design/build and transportation improvement projects including airport operations as required.
  • Computer skills using Microsoft Office, Vissim, Vistro, Synchro/Sim Traffic, HCS, AutoCAD and MicroStation

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in ITS and traffic engineering for urban and rural highways, major and minor interchanges and intersections
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Knowledge of regulations of state and federal transportation agencies
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Experience using HCS, CORSIM, Synchro/SIM Traffic and other software packages
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, presentation skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position is $128,000 - $182,000 and depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.)
