In the role of Senior Environmental Scientist, we'll count on you to

  • Plan and direct medium- to large-size environmental planning and compliance projects for transportation, water/wastewater, coastal restoration, oil and gas, renewable energy, facilities, land management, and other programs as identified
  • Prepare, plan and analyze/review technical studies, permit applications, NEPA documents, and similar reports/documents
  • Accomplish work independently and through coordinating or supervising small to large technical and professional teams from local and regional offices
  • Support regional or national projects in specific areas of technical expertise
  • Be closely involved in public participation and multiple agency coordination
  • Take responsibility for task/project management, including developing and managing budgets, schedules, and quality of products
  • Serve as Task Manager on small to medium size projects (i.e., $10k-$250k fees)
  • Serve as Project Manager on small to medium size projects (i.e., $10k - $250k fees) as needed, but project management is not sole focus of position
  • Perform quality control reviews on technical deliverables and proposals, as needed
  • Coordinating with local HDR Project Manager's to develop business with existing clients (i.e., cross selling environmental science and planning services to existing clients through HDR Project Managers)
  • Perform other duties as needed


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree
  • Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Section 10 & Section 404 permitting
  • Direct experience working the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Regulatory Division staff in the Galveston District
  • Knowledge of the ecosystems and natural resource conservation issues in the Gulf Coastal Plain
  • Experience coordinating with local, state, and federal stakeholders to find solutions to regulatory requirements and mitigation planning
  • At least 10 years of experience leading managing field work and leading field teams
  • Federal Transit Administration experience, including preparation of Categorical Exclusions and other environmental documentation for the FTA
  • Experience with ArcGIS software and/or coordinating with GIS professionals to plan and execute field work as well as develop technical report
  • Ability to mentor junior staff
  • Experience writing scopes of work, project schedules and developing fee estimates
  • Experience conducting delineations and marine aquatic surveys
  • Experience working on and/or managing USACE civil works projects

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environment Science or closely related field
  • 10 years experience in complex environmental planning/compliance projects
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the NEPA process
  • Experience managing large, complex EIS documents for transportation, large facility, land management, or other infrastructure projects
  • Technical expertise in the design, implementation, interpretation and presentation of data for environmental studies and investigations in specialized discipline
  • Proficient with MS Office
  • Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving and research abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Staff management experience beneficial
